Sucks on the lip, but the flywheel is pretty.

Do you know how much the stock flywheel weighs?

Snakes709 06-12-2012 08:04 PM

Stock is 14lbs. The site says the streetlite is 13.1 but on my scale it says 12.2...so iiunno. My clutch was shipped today. ACT ****** up and for some reason didnt ship both the clutch and flywheel together. Also AMS shipped the CMC a few days ago apparently and whoever had the lip, shipped it as well..lol.

Also i just wanna add. I had a 240z (possibly V6 or 8 swap) but still sounded like ****, try to race me today. He was behind me at a red light and he dumped his clutch and spun his wheels. Paced next to me for a few km's. Then dumped his clutch at the next light and spun his tires. Then the next light it sounded like his transmission just dropped out of the bottom of the car. I gave him the finger and turned off and went to the bank. It pisses me off when retards drive like that around me. I like to keep my car low key from the cops (and i do a damn good job at it) but its retards like that, that bring attention to my car. I been pulled over once and that was by the MP's on the base one night. They pulled me over for my tint and asked me if i knew if it was illegal and why i still did it. I told them because i wanted it like that and i dont act like a retard on the streets so cops never bother me. They just let me go, no ticket, no warnings...nothing. They said "we will show you the same curtousy as the city police"

Snakes709 06-19-2012 08:17 PM

Clutch and CMC came it, however AMS forgot the Master Cylinder so its being overnighted to me....

New clutch is in, tuning is still undergoing but its looking good. This was from today in 32*C temps...not to shabby

Heres what my stock clutch looked like when it finally kicked the bucket.

Nice numbers!

Snakes709 07-15-2012 01:33 PM

Well it happend.... Went to the drag strip on friday and did a few passes. Due to the heat, not use to the clutch and hitting rev limit in 4th about 20meters before the finish line i could only run a 12.4@111. My last run my cel came on and the car sounded odd so i checked it over but it looked normal. Decided to head home but halfway home the engine died and would fire up. So im thinking "great i just blew the motor what else can go wrong." so i call a tow truck and ask for a flat bed since its awd and all the wheels have to be off the ground. They tell me they dont have flat beds but will use the dolly for the rear wheels. Well the driver shows up and hooks the front end up. I ask him to do the rear but he santed to get of the highway first. I assumed he was going to take the next exit which was about 100meters ahead and get the rear off the ground but he didnt. 20km down the road my buddy waved us over and it looked like someone stuck 2 smoke grenades in my engine bay. It was all coming from the front diff and tcase. So i told the driver to call his manager because they are paying for it. So we are waitin to hear back from the dealership. So far the only info i know is the 3 codes. PO300, PO400 and PO406 so a misfire and egr failure. So most likely a damaged plug, valve and piston.

I'm not sure why you let them move an inch like that. You're drivetrain is totally toast. Also sounds like you popped a ringland in the motor. Who tuned your car?

12.4 @ 111 is about 350whp. I know because thats what my stock turbo, tuned Evo X ran when it had 350whp.

good luck with the repairs dude.

cow 07-16-2012 10:18 AM

What the ffffuuuucccckkk?! Why'd you let them move the car like that?

Snakes709 07-16-2012 04:54 PM

Im still asking myself that question. Anyways long story short, the tow company is now denying they ever picked me up, even though i have the work order and photo evidence. I started the first steps to sueing them. Just got back from the court house and im waiting on the estimates for the damage. The court said i should go for damage + time lost + car rental + out of pocket expenses + deminising value.

Jesus tap-dancing Christ on a fuel injected motorcycle what kind of Karma is that. Worst day at the drag strip ever. I'm subscribing to this, keep us up to date.

BTW I sleuthed my way into finding what company this is:

Alberta Safe Towing Ltd - 1508 49 St NW, Edmonton, AB

Alberta Safe Towing?

Make sure you follow up with what ever Canada's version of the BBB is, I'm sure they can make it there on a three day's ride through Maple Moose Mountain.

I'm above 400hp but with a new clutch i wasnt quite use to, my 60' was jumping around. Anything from 1.8 to 2.3. Also it was 30*C outside and i was hitting rev limit in 4th about 50-75ft before the finish line. So everything really ****** my times up.

Yes thats them. I called the owner yesterday, he changed his story. He is now saying they did pick me up but his driver used the dollys for the rear wheels the whole time. Funny thing is the driver called me about an hour later just to see how things are going and told the owner what happend. Also the dealership called. They wanna replace the whole damn engine.

Engine = $11,000
Tcase/Rear diff = $14,000.

When i spoke to the owner he, of course, denys damaging the drvetrain and refuses to pay for it. I then spoke with the driver who is a mechanic and knows if you go aftermarket its cheaper. So im making a deal if we send the tcase and rear diff to Jacks Transmission, both can get rebuild/upgraded for $3024. And the engine can get sent to AMS or MAP and build for $5000. So between the cost, shipping and labour. $10,000-12,000. Or i can go to court and sue for $20,000-25,000...which is what the court said i should do. I know the tow company isnt responsible for my engine. But if they agree on the deal, its still cheaper then going to court. And if i go to court, im sueing for more then just the damages. What im wondering is say i sue for $20,000 and i only get $14000 to cover the damages. Does that 14,000 go straight to the dealership or can i use that and pay $3000 for jacks transmission to do the work and use the rest for my engine and/or deminishing value?

cow 07-17-2012 10:07 AM

God forbid it ever happens again (once fixed), but grab one of these stickers:

AWD Tow Decal

If they try to give you a tow on a picker truck, tell them to eat a purple veiny pimple covered d1ck.

cow 07-17-2012 10:21 AM

Don't let them cheap out on aftermarket items-- you name the price of what you want. Make sure you don't let them get some cheap crap.

Snakes709 07-18-2012 06:17 PM

I decided to get the car towed home from the dealership. I dont trust them down there. Charged me $137 to take my plugs out and tell me i had a valve float and the piston is damage and i need a whole long block. So i picked the car up since they said it was outside waiting for me. Plugs were in the cup holder, bolts that hold the boots down were by the hood where the wipers were (nice that my buddy noticed that before we drove away with the car on the flat bed) and they tried to keep my SSP Aluminum Underpanel.

Starting tearing things apart. I got the exhaust manifold, pipes and valve cover off. Tomorrow im going to jack it up, remove the side panel from the motor so i take off the timing chain and then the intake manifold. Remove the cams and then unbolt the head.

You are obviously a man of action, keep at it and in no time your evo will be back and stronger than ever. Head for 11's my friend.

Snakes709 07-19-2012 09:37 PM

I got the intake manifold off and this is what i found.....

http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...IMG_2243_1.jpg

http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p..._MG_2255_1.jpg

The pieces were sitting at the bottom of the manifold. The rest of the valve is jammed in there and the inside the head is scratched to ****. It looks bad, not sure if that can be fixed.

Snakes709 07-22-2012 08:59 PM

Ok i got quite abit done today. First i wanna start with apparently the dealership told the owner of the tow company that i damaged a axle seal on the left front when attempting to do my clutch. Which they noted in the work order but no signs of damage that i could see. So since i found out they told him that bs, with that and racing i was starting to have doubts about the law suit. So i went and double checked there work. They said "your tcase and rear diff are blown, theres nothing but gunk and metal chunks". I removed the drain plug from the rear diff, looks like brand new oil, and it should since i diff a oil diff change about a month ago (2000km). No metal shavings or shunks either. I then moved on to the transmission. Transmission looked perfect, as it should since new oil was put in with the clutch. Then i looked at the tcase. and found this....

http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...9/IMG_2257.jpg

http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p...9/IMG_2260.jpg

So obviously the tcase is blown. Now what makes me happy is i know this *** clown is going to say "oh he damaged the axle seal which caused his drivetrain to blow" WRONG!! If i did damage the axle seal, which i see no signs of at all, it was on the driver side which goes to the transmission. Dealership said the tranny wasnt damaged. The damaged seal, is obviously in the tcase, with the rest of the oil all over it.

So my buddy came over with a impact gun, it took 350ftlb's to break that crank pulley loose. I couldnt locate the 4th bolt hollywood mentions in the instructions im following that he wrote for Cosworth cams. He said theres 4 bolts holding down the lower AC bracket. So we went a step further, since it will have to be done and removed the power stearing pump, altinator and ac pump. Then got the cams and everything else off. Soon as we removed the cam, the broke valve with the spring was able to come right out. I didnt have a long t-55 torx socket so work is on hold for a few days until i can get one. Heres a few more pictures.

Well i got the head off. Good news is the cylinder walls arent damaged, even with a piece of the piston missing. The bad news is, i got a feeling the head is no good. The damage is pretty deep. Also one of the exhaust valves for #1 isnt sitting right, im assuming thats slightly bent but didnt cause any damage to the head. Heres some pictures.

Unique_Z 07-24-2012 04:15 PM

so you're going to rebuild the head? goodluck on that  and i'm sorry for your damage.

Snakes709 07-24-2012 06:50 PM

Yea i just brought the head to a shop to get it inspected. They said it can be repaired but what they said they had to do, doesnt sit right with me. I'm aiming for 500hp and reving to 8500rpm. So i dont want this biting me in the ***. So im going to fork out the extra money for a new head. It might set me back time and money wise. But its not worth saving a few hundred if the repairs fail and i blow the motor a second time.

Snakes709 08-02-2012 08:22 PM

Got the motor, tcase and transmission out. After talking to Dino from Speed Circuit for about an hour on the phone. I'm going to go with a built head with stage 1 porting and a built block, sleeved and bored out to a 2.2L. I'll stick with my FP Red unless i can find someone to do a trade or really good deal on a FP Black.

Slowly nothing-- you move faster than just about anyone else I've seen. I'd still be sitting on my hands lamenting my bad luck.

Snakes709 08-06-2012 01:58 PM

haha, true. Well the reason im moving at this pace is because i had 3 weeks off of work (i go back tomorrow) and i blew the engine 2 days before my leave. So the last 3 weeks with no car and nothing to do, gave me plenty of time to rip it apart. Also note, i have NEVER ripped apart an engine...lol. So breaking down the entire black is a nice learning expeirence for me. That being said, ill most likely not being doing the install. Still debating my plan but ill most likely send the block to Speed Circuit. What im doing now is ripping out everything that is damaged and not needed for them. Trying to cut as much weight off of it as i can so the shipping isnt a killer. But because i dont have the cash and i need to get my gf an engagement ring, plus get my ZX6R back on the road. I probably wont be ordering any parts for about a year or so. I picked up a 03 Cavalier for $600 so im hoping that will last me until i get the Evo back on the road.

Also note, all this work on the engine is done in my apartment parking lot and patio, lmao.

Snakes709 08-12-2012 08:44 PM

So i just sold my FP Red for $1800 and im picking up a FP Black from my buddy when he gets it off his car next week. It's pretty much brand new. For some reason he switched from a FP Green, to the black and just with a base tune made 400whp. And then changed his mind and wants to go with a AMS kit. So now my parts consist of...

Ball Bearing FP Black, ported, 25psi WGA, hiflow oil feed line
2.2L sleeve blocked with Arias Pistons and Manley I beam rods
ARP Head and Main Studs
Main and Rod Bearings
Speed Circuit Stage 2 ported head
+1mm Valves
GSC Valve Springs
GSC S2 Cams
Mishmoto Dual core oil cooler kit
Jacks Transmission and Tcase rebuild/upgrade

estimated hp. 500hp on low boost, 600hp on high boost :D

This story isn't like any other I have seen with modded EVOs. Blown motors, broken trannies are pretty much par for the course,

Hmmm I have a 437 WHP 370 Z with 3 year 36 k mile warranty on motor and drivetrain. Haven't broke anything for 6 months now.

Seems like goal one " dont blow it up" was violated in quick order with the "cheap" EVO?

Stock 500 hp GTR is looking like a bargin to me!

It wasnt the car or the motor and its not "cheap" its all about the tune. Unfortunely my tuner didnt do much for the knock that was showing and it eventualy blew the engine.

This, right here. Tune is EVERYTHING with an FI car. It's really frustrating to find a good tuner who you can trust (without having to sort through hype/horror stories).

As well as if you have 437hp on your 370z, that means you have some serious mods, which means if you pop your engine... You have no warrenty
