Should I trade my Z For a Shelby or 5.0

Lately I've really been looking around. I love my Z but it comes up short in power, passenger space, and I find a few performance issues.

So my wife noticed this and said that around the first of the year I could get something new if I wanted. So she takes me to look at the Sheblys at the local ford dealer.

They seem rely mean. Great power, looks, and can hold 4 bodies. But $55k is a lot even if I can afford it.

I'm also looking at what Is coming in he future. If found this link

2013 Mustang Renderings Include Bullitt, Mach 1 - StangTV.com

I love dark green and would really love that car if ford makes it.

There are some things I'll miss on the Z. I like the key, and layout of the interior. But a car is about driving.

Please give me some thoughts on what you guys think.

Red__Zed 11-03-2011 07:06 PM

The GT500 is an absolute nasty *** beast. If power is what you are after, it is very difficult to beat.

That said, I'm not positive it is what I would go with if I was dropping 50k...although I would consider it if it was my only car I guess.

For my uses, the 5.0 offers far more power than I need, I think the 5.0 is a vastly superior motor. I would probably go with the 5.0 and the factory supercharger over a gt500 as well.

On the other hand, there's something special about owning a gt500. that supercharged 5.4 sounds absolutely nasty.

Lemers 11-03-2011 07:11 PM

In some of the price estimates I did I was coming out $15k cheaper on a fully stocked 5.0 and with the ford SC costing $7200 I'm sure with install I'll come out ahead and keep my warrantee.

m4a1mustang 11-03-2011 07:14 PM

I would go with the 5.0 + factory installed supercharger unless you absolutely had to have a GT500 for whatever reason.

nogoodname 11-03-2011 07:25 PM

Yeah do it. Trade the Z in ASAP!

Lemers 11-03-2011 07:25 PM

What do you think a SC install would cost at ford?

Cmike2780 11-03-2011 07:29 PM

I would personally go look towards the ZL1 if I were shopping around in that price range. A Shelby would be my choice out of the two.

FL 4Motion 11-03-2011 07:32 PM

Lemers, if you're like me, you prefer to have the best model of whatever car you purchase vs. modding a baser model to meet/exeed the more premium one.

So...if it were me, I'd opt for the boss 302 LS or a GT500. Both are totally badass. Esp that Boss 302, that one would get my vote and my $$$.

m4a1mustang 11-03-2011 07:33 PM

The difference here is that he gets to keep the factory warranty with the blower.

b1adesofcha0s 11-03-2011 07:35 PM

I'd go with 5.0 + factory SC as well.

Lemers 11-03-2011 07:35 PM

The boss LS is out because of no backseats. Can't justify going from 2 seats to 2 seats. If the regular boss had leather and nav I'd probably be sold right now

DJ-of-E 11-03-2011 07:35 PM

Boss 302

Best of both worlds.

m4a1mustang 11-03-2011 07:37 PM

He wants it loaded, though, so the Boss is out.

Lemers 11-03-2011 07:38 PM

Maybe I could get the boss and find someone who wants to trade interiors.

m4a1mustang 11-03-2011 07:39 PM

You could just get the 5.0 with a fully loaded interior, buy Konis and springs and bam, you out-handle the Boss.

That could work. I'm assuming the Boss comes with racing seats? If so, it shouldn't be too hard to find IMO.

Gotcha, forgot you got kids to factor into the equation. I'd personally go GT500 then. Factory FI'd, very easy to turn up the boost w/a smaller pulley tune etc, IF you even wanted to. Very easy car to leave essentially stock imo. Zero warrantee hassles etc. Plus, honestly, it looks super aggressive, moreso than a stock 5.0.

I'd trade:tup:

Lemers 11-03-2011 07:43 PM

Even the backseat?

regular boss has a backset. There are a ton of guys in tx that would trade for the backseat delete though.

5.0 + Ford Racing blower = factory warranty.

ah, well, that complicates things now, doesn't it? :)

It'd still go with the GT500, but that's just me, looks better (subjective I know) and it's the "top dog" for the 'stang line.

Lemers 11-03-2011 07:52 PM

5.0 with SC = stealth compared to a gt500

Very good point, esp when you're racing for pinks...

:p

FromG2Z 11-04-2011 09:13 AM

Lemers...

Though I love the 5.0, I would say go for the GT500. It's what I wanted, but can't afford just yet. My next one will be though. Going with a 5.0 and SC'ing is also an option... Both will be "exclusive" and "special" but the GT500 will just add more eye candy to those around you.

Agree, Dan.

That's why I traded my Z in, Lemers... backseat for kids to come enjoy my toy car with me.

Dan, Steve... my 5.0 got pushed up to arrive next week or so. Will post a thread when it comes in. I can hardly contain myself.

Red__Zed 11-04-2011 09:29 AM

Dang, that's nice and early! Stoked for ya!

The Leguna Seca Boss is a very limited edition version of the Boss with a built in roll cage where the back seats go. The "normal" Boss has back seats. If I were buying, the Boss would probably be the one of the three I'd want when considering costs, but the GT500 does give me a stiffy! :D

Skeeterbop 11-04-2011 10:08 AM

If I was in your situation and was considering the mustang, I would go with the 5.0 w/ factory supercharger. As awesome as the GT500 looks, I would rather have a low profile. People that know you will know what your car has and can do, and imo the only thing that matters is how much fun you have with it. Whatever you do, I would love to see it if/when you get it.

I love that SC whine!

FromG2Z 11-10-2011 01:16 PM

you still haven't decided Lemers?

FYI, my car is in the final Ford lot, off the train. Just waiting for trucks to pick it up. Should be anyday now. I hope this weekend or next week. Dan, Steve, will keep you posted!!!

Lemers 11-10-2011 02:36 PM

If I make this move it will either be after Christmas or after I move in summer. So there is still time for me yet.

If that's the case then you should wait for the upgraded GT500.

Lemers 11-10-2011 05:56 PM

I know. If it doesn't have an upgraded price

FromG2Z 11-10-2011 06:09 PM

3 to 5 k more on a 55-60k vehicle is peanuts in grand scheme. Don't base ur decision on that.

blinkme323 11-10-2011 08:40 PM

If you're going to spend 55-60k you might want to consider an M3. That price point is creeping into its territory.

DIGItonium 11-10-2011 08:43 PM

Boss 302 > GT500 ? :)
