would you pay 100K for a hyundai?
found this on another forum, thought id share it here, it seems that hyundai are bored with trying to mess around with the 370z with the Genesis coup, now they are thinking of taking on the GT-R and 911, they must be out of their minds if they expect people to pay 100K for a hyundai, ok no matter how much they claim the numbers on a car would be, i wouldn't pay 100k for a car with no history i mean i can justify paying that amount for a 911 or GT-R not just for the power and performance of them but also for the wide history of these legendary cars. Just one last thought, Hyundai had a hard time competing with the 370 with their genesis coup, how will they expect to keep up with the GT-R or 911

Good for them. I love that they are taking chances. Where are you Honda???

if it's a great car, i don't see a problem with it

Hyundai has made great strides since they first came onto the scene. Their quality has improved over the years and their sales are a reflection of that. The Elantra, Sonata along with the Genesis Coupe R-Spec and the Equus are also indicative of their move to increase market share by building cars that people are willing to pay for. I personally would not pay 100K for a Hyundai, but then again I wouldn't pay 100K for much of anything. If they do though, it will be good for the auto industry as competition is a good thing. Keeps innovation alive.

You know what's funny? People paying well over 1/4 million for a Lexus.
See, Lexus used to be like Hyundai. BMW/Mercedes/etc. fans thought they were cheap crap. However, through providing equal or superior performance to those cars at cheaper prices, Lexus established itself, and stole a large market segment in the luxury/sport arena. Now, Lexus and BMW and Mercedes are synonymous with each other. Hyundai looks to be following their exact business model. Look how far they came in just 10 years? Give them another 10 and unless the global economy changes radically, you will be singing another tune. |
GT-R or take the bus.
I'm never going to stoop down to the Hyundai level no matter what their performance numbers are |

For those who remember, back in the fifties and sixties if you asked someone what type of words are descriptive of Japanese products, you would have heard, "Cheap", "Crap", etc. Today the same question gets a response more like, "High Tech", "High quality", "I want it", etc. Hyundai hasn't been around for too long but they are definitely making inroads. Since it'll be a while before I will ever need to decide which 100K car I want, I just hope to see as many companies making cars as possible.

Lexus used to be a joke... Infiniti as well. Look at them now. Hyundai keeps making huge strides. The fact so many enthusiasts talk isht about their lack of automotive pedigree helps their cause. It means they are taking chances and doing things right. Give the brand another 10 years and I'm sure a lot of the nay-sayers will be singing a different tune. |

But if I were buying a 100k car, I might go British. |
had a big response. deleted it. didnt wanna offend anyone :p

Withhold judgement on the car until it's released & reviewed before instantly writing it off because it's a Hyundai. |
it isnt the hyuandai badge detering me, however the fact that this would be their first "supercar", and im sure it would be a learning process for them.
I'd be nervous spending 100k on hyundais's first attempt. I personally dont think the hyundai brand is terrible, hell i only drive a nissan....who am i to judge. |
On the other side of the coin, if 20 years ago someone asked you if you'd pay $90,000 for a nissan you would of said, hell no! Now you're all on the GTR band wagan. You never know what they will be as a company in 10-20 years.
|
10 or 20 years from now a lot could change, but right now i also will not pay that much for a hundayi not because its a hundayi but simply because it is their first attempt plus i could get a car that is proven and has a history a legacy instead of a car that has none at all

They could even make it a diesel supercar if they wanted to based on their diesel tech they have worldwide. Problem is hyundai ussually tones down their cars a bit for more mass market appeal. If they really decide to go bonkers on this it could be something quite extreme. |

also, i bet if they bring this car to the market, it will have no hyundai badging, and 99% of the population will have no idea it's a hyundai
the viper didnt say "Dodge" anywhere on it. |

Funny, I wonder how people feel about "Japanese sport cars" back then when American and European cars were THE cars to own.
I applaud Hyundai for this endeavor. The direction they're taking to their cars really outshines Honda and Toyota. If they have a car that competes with a Porsche or GTR, that's just putting themselves 2 steps above Toyota and Honda. I'm getting tired of the "just enough" feeling while Mazda and Hyundai has been bumping up their $50K< segments. |
If Hyundai can put out a $100k car that can compete with the GT-R and 911, it might help motivate Nissan/Porsche to further develop their own cars and make them even better. I'd say that's a win for everyone
|
if it has the sophistication of the GTR and 911 for $90-100k and has a 100k mile/10 year warranty, it should do very well. my dad just got a new sonata and it's a really nice car! they really have come a long way!
|
I am actually a big fan of most of Hyundai's new cars. They are really good, and I'm excited to see where they go in a few years.

from the WSJ today:
"But today Hyundai U.S. Chief John Krafcik shared a curious bit of info that seems almost implausible. The brand also seems to appeal to the very wealthy. American Express Centurion Card holders – those people who are rich enough that they are offered a “Black Card” with a nearly unlimited line of credit and a host of other niceties – buy Hyundais at a disproportionately high rate compared with other cars. Indeed, 6% of Black Card holders say they have a Hyundai in the garage. That’s tied with Bentley and Audi. Others on the list: BMW is tops with 22%; then Mercedes with 21%; Porsche with 15%; Lexus, 11%; Ferrari, 8%; and Acura, 7%. That puts a lot of interesting brands below it." |

IF I had that kind of money, I would honestly get the R35.
on a side note, if they make the car I look forward to seeing how it performs. |

Sorry guys I have to agree, I would NEVER buy a Hyundai. I dont care what its number are like. Call me close minded but its a f-ing HYUNDAI! To spend 100k on a Hyundai is absolutly unacceptable. If Hyundai was the last car maker on the planet Id buy a bike. No self respecting car guy can drive around with his head held high in a cheap hunk of poop like that.
