When I first saw the pics for the FT-86, it looked pretty damn sweet, but now that reality has kicked in and the final production model has been shown, its a big let down. Looks matter and I don't think that the FT-86 has them. Is there really a market for a $20K sports car?

![]() I was following the FT-86 development for some time, but as expected, the homogenized production version was disappointing...as was the lack of horsepower! That's what ultimately led me back to the Z. Maybe Toyota will actually bring back something worthy of being a Supra someday! |

The problem with the Subaru though is it won't stay in the 20k price range, the cost will shoot up like crazy to get all the basic Subie stuff - AWD, boxer engine, blah blah blah. Unless they do keep the Toyota engine in there...which would be kinda weird I think. Subie without a boxer engine...hmmph.

I'll be checking out the Suburu verison of the ft-86, What drew my attention apart from its nice looking exterior, is that the VP says "how would you like to go to the track and carry all your spares and jack in the car without having to use a truck or trailer"
BUT after watching the video the second time around in the end he says, something like, "This is an example of what tuners could do to this vehicle, yadda yadda" so this makes me wonder how much the production model will look like the concept.

The design is really attractive and stylish, but the power will be lacking. Toyota is aiming for a retail price in the low 25k market. It will compete with the Hyundai Genesis 2.0T, Subaru WRX, Lancer Ralliart, VW GTI, Mini Cooper, Honda Civic Si, Cobalt SS T/C, Dodge Caliber SRT4, etc.
I'm thinking it will be close to the 200 bhp league. It's no where near the status of the 370z. |

However...I'm pretty sure the car's more like a RWD Celica/Supra replacement than the AE86 replacement. I mean the 4AG engine in the AE86 was pretty high in RPM during it's time. If the boxer engine can't out-rev that, it's kinda mute point. |
