Toyota: Wow, this FT-86 is too cool for us to make, lets give it to Subaru and Scion.

Scion: Wow, this FT-86 is too nice for our standards. Let's turn it into a cheap POS and send it to production.

Subaru: Hmmm... this could be cool.

We'll see what Subaru does. Might end up being something cool. A replacement for the Z? I don't think so! It's not going to be in the same class as the Z.

It's funny the article states this when most suby informers and the suby boards all say the suby version won't have turbo and will just be a slightly different design compared to the toyota. I'd love to see a STI motor in this car but there really hasn't been any hard evidence to suggest it will happen. All the major evidence of this car points to a 2.0 NA with 200 or less hp.

The problem with the Subaru though is it won't stay in the 20k price range, the cost will shoot up like crazy to get all the basic Subie stuff - AWD, boxer engine, blah blah blah. Unless they do keep the Toyota engine in there...which would be kinda weird I think. Subie without a boxer engine...hmmph.

I'll be checking out the Suburu verison of the ft-86, What drew my attention apart from its nice looking exterior, is that the VP says "how would you like to go to the track and carry all your spares and jack in the car without having to use a truck or trailer"
BUT after watching the video the second time around in the end he says, something like, "This is an example of what tuners could do to this vehicle, yadda yadda" so this makes me wonder how much the production model will look like the concept.

No AWD. All models will have a subaru engine in them, either a tuned up EJ20 or the new FB20.

What subaru boards are saying that?

There's a test mule running around a couple places with an EJ207 and a twin scroll straight out of the J- spec STI, and another one with the EJ257 and the VF48.

Haha, yeah. They put the engine too far back and too low for AWD.
