For some reason, whenever I think of concept cars that went from awesome concept to ultimate FAIL in the production model, I always think of the latest Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I think this car looks good as a concept but still seems like a down grade from the Z

esfourteen 04-24-2011 08:27 PM

I'll trade in my Z when nissan puts out a TT Z from the factory.

Not unless you like torque!

Plus this keeps getting delayed it won't be out until 2013 with all the issues Toyota has been having.

CrownR426 04-24-2011 10:39 PM

This will not perform on the same level as the z.
Stock vs Stock no...
But when modding goes anything wins.

If the new Alfa 4C comes to the US in an affordable package, I'd buy that and never even consider the FT-86.

***Addendum

Although...I just read the next page in my CAR Magazine and the Subaru STI version of the FT-86 might get my attention.

Even more food for thought...the latest Esflow update. Apparently the seats are molded into the rear bulkhead and the steering wheel and pedals adjust. About damn time, Nissan.

370z 3,300/330=10lb/hp
FT86 x,x00/200=10lb/hp

Unless it has something else going for it its going to have to be around the weight of a Lotus Elise/Exige. But I doubt that, it will be around the same weight of other small 2 seat cars, 2,700-3,100 lbs. (Miata/S2000 plus the weight of a roof ~300lbs)

Edit: If they stress a little more on safety and use more cheaper materials to keeps costs down, it may end up heavier then a Z.

spearfish25 04-25-2011 10:51 AM

The Subie STI version is speculated to have over 270hp in the article I posted.

Damn everyone here is hating hardddd, i actually enjoyed the presentation, very well built exterior, the engine is small but they twin turbo it up!!! OH SNAPPP

GZ3 04-25-2011 10:54 AM

this could a bad arse little car....but i would still take the Z!

Toyota's releasing an agile and affordable rwd coupe. I think that's awesome. It's about time they released a proper "fun" car again, and if it's priced cheaply enough, this thing will sell big.

And if they and/or Scoobydoo release this with a high output engine, it'll compete.

But will gas prices dip so that people want to buy performance again?

Econ 04-25-2011 11:01 AM

I think they should release this car to compete with the 20-35k car market, and then release a supra to compete with corvette/gtr/911 market.

That's precisely where this will be targetted, Miatas and Genesis Coupe 2.0's.
