New 5.0 Mustang GT's are rated at 412 bhp and dyno-ing at 395 whp! And they have Getrag tranny's stock. On the other end, I remember the horrific over-estimation that was the Mazda RX-8. There was such a huge discrepency between advertised bhp and power to the wheels that they actually issued customers rebates.

The 370Z is rated at 332 bhp, but puts out around 270-280 whp. I don't really know much about cars and normal drivetrain losses, but that seems like a lot compared to the figures for the mustang 5.0 that BLM gave.

It's not the drivetrain loss, it's Ford purposely under-rating the car. And it also seems like Nissan may have over-rated the Z given what it puts down stock. That's a lot of drivetrain loss for 2wd. My wrx dynoed around 50 hp less than it's advertised 227 bhp, and that was through AWD

Of course it did. The advertised spec from Subaru was (as you said), 227bhp. Most dyno's measure power at the rear wheels, not the crankshaft. About an average of 15 to 20 percent difference.

Mine was the same. My dyno was 7 percent less than the Nissan advertised spec.

Another thing to remember is a solid axle has slightly less drive train loss than IRS. Figures I've heard are something like 15% vs 13% in theory.

Doesn't the 5.0 GT have independent rear?

but drivers on mustangs are considerably heavier on average (due to too much burgerage) so the hyundai (calbee FTW!) is faster even at 333hp.

it's a Hyundai sorry doesn't interest me. but to each his own.
the true sports car 2 seater is only for a select group of buyers.
there will always be a ton of people who will never consider the z
because of that no matter how much HP nissan puts into it.

i can't say for sure but i wouldn't be off much there is probably less
than 5 true sports cars meaning 2 seats that cost between 30,000 to 50,000
imho thats who the z competes with.

Dont think adding 30hp or whatever is going to bring the Hyundai down from low 14's in the quarter to low 13's and change the 0-60 from mid 5's to high 4's The latter is what the Z does. Its going to be a cool car, but it will never drive sound handle or feel like a Z.

Cool Brave

If Hyundai had some balls they would put a V8 under the hood and watch the competition start to worry, big time.

I have to disagree with the sound part. The 3.8 sounds insane, very similar to a Z actually. There is something to be said about that exhaust note...

It's not going to be as fast as a Z with the same driver, even with the extra hp/tq. It will make the car more marketable, however. A lot of people take mag times/specs extremely seriously and go solely by that, so it may help the car sell a little better. Hopefully the car won't cut power under high RPM shifts like it did when it first came out. The dealer did an ECU mod for it, but hopefully the new one won't come with it. That severely hampered the cars performance (I believe they tested it with/without and it improved by .3 and 2mph in the 1/4).
