3.31 is the stock gear.

3.55 and 3.73 are the options.

The 3.73 cars are going to accelerate the quickest but will have lower highway mpgs than the 3.55 or 3.31.

Real sports cars trade high mpg's for high mph's. Good choice on 3.73, Steve.0

Some people say the 3.73 is too much gear, but right now, it's perfect. I suspect with FI I would want to dial it back to a 3.55, but N/A 3.73 is nice. If this was a drag-only car I'd think about a 4.10 or 4.30.

I think the 3.55's are the perfect medium of acceleration and fuel economy IMHO, I just drove 550 miles to El Paso, TX from Lawton, OK, heres how I did:

23.6 mpg halfways through the trip, it actually went up to 24.5 overall average when I arrived in El Paso.

And if you look at the trip, I set that at fill up, so at 200 miles, she drank half a tank.

not too shabby if I may say so myself.

Does ride quality or anything else besides MPG suffer?

No, the gear ratio isn't going to have any impact on ride quality.

I will say though, I gave up 100 miles a tank from the Z, on my trip to Ohio in the Z, I went 510 miles before I had to fill up, having tank with 3 less gallons could also be a culprit.

I got mine up to 23 on the way home from STL. But yeah, the smaller tank sucks. The Z's was huge at 19.x gal. I think ours is 15.x.

23 is pretty good, its pretty flat through the plains. I think the reason mine wasnt the greatest is because the whole way to El Paso is hills and mountain ridges, lotsa uphill driving.

I was also doing some research today, some guys on allfordmustangs have posted 12.7's on 3.31 gears, wonder how that is? probably less wheel spin/hop at launch maybe?

On street tires the 3.31s will help with traction issues on the launch, so assuming you hook you could definitely cut a 12.7. I think a 3.31 car could even dip in to the .6s or high .5s depending on the DA and launch with street tires.

I'm in El Paso and theres a strip about 2 miles from my hotel room, that track hurt my pride a bit with my Z (i'll attribute that to altitude and shitty track prep), I'm debating going this weekend, what do you think man? If I go and run a 14, i'll shit a brick and I dont know if my pride could take the hit

Go and learn the car.

I am going this Friday and while I have a goal ET of 12.7 I won't be disappointed if I don't hit that target. It's been a while and I haven't launched this car yet, so I need some seat time.

I have LOTS of 17-20 second time slips from my old Mustang. If I felt I blew the launch or messed up a shift I would just coast the remainder of the track. There's no sense in using the car up if you know the run is no good. IMO, it's better to give up and run a 17.9 @ 50 mph than go down trying with a 13.9 @ 115.
