When he returns the car to fill the rest of the engine oil, make sure the "request for work" the service associate fills out indicates the reason. That way at least the issue is documented and if the engine develops problems later, you have documentation.

Yes, documents and receipts are very important.

Someone here had a similar problem with his son's 370 after a botched oil change. He ended up getting free service and extended warranty, I think.

damn... i'm getting nervous. i have 3k on the odometer, almost time for my first oil change. i'm scared to take it to the dealer based on all these horror stories, and i'm scared to do it myself based on these other stories of peoples jack stands falling and them dying.

Call Mazda Customer Service, call the Service manager, and see if you can get a 10year 100,000 mile warranty to cover the engine and the car. I think you can at least get that out of the dealership.

At least you are starting to see the light... Don't waste your time/money going to the dealer for something so simple.

I would ensure the owner of the dealership is aware of what happened. Have him/her give you a signed letter stating they will be responsible for any adverse actions concerning the vehicle. Also, contact the BBB and let them know what happened. You should be OK.
