2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Shame

So I was asked by a friend to go vehicle shopping with him so he would make a good decision on purchasing a new vehicle to replace his old 2014 Kia Optima which was a lemon and lemon lawed. He took me to a Ford dealership where he is considering purchasing a 2019 Ford Fiesta hatchback. We looked at the origin sticker to see where it was made and we found after talking to the sales director of the Ford dealership that most of the whole Ford Fiesta model is made in Mexico,Brazil,and Canada and barely any of the Ford Fiesta is made in the United States. It is dishonest and a shame that Ford leads the United States to believe that Americans are purchasing a vehicle that is made in the United States but in reality it barely is even made in the United States. It is sad how much Ford has out sourced their vehicles to be made in other countries. Shame on you Ford to mislead people in their vehicle buying experience. What are your thoughts on Ford and how much they out source their vehicles? What are your thoughts on the newer Ford model vehicles? My friend test drove the Ford Fiesta hatchback and told me that he didn’t like it and said it honestly reminded him of a roach mobile.

I was able to get my friend interested in more reliable/dependable vehicles the Toyota Yaris,Nissan Versa,and Nissan Sentra. We will see what new vehicle he ends up purchasing?? Any ideas on what vehicles to have my friend look at? I don’t think I could handle going to a Ford dealership again.

I am trying to get him interested in purchasing a Nissan though.

Nissan's entry level compacts are total shitbuckets, I would never suggest someone get one. The Yaris is a solid choice. Fords are fine.

Hyundai is ok. The Fiesta is a good car. I'm iffy on the Yaris we have one lol. I would steer clear of any Nissan with cvt personally.

Man I had to put in nearly 400 miles in a Sentra last weekend.

According to my Hertz receipt I was driving the 1.8, and that thing seemingly had to work all the time. I'm surprised I averaged 30+mpg.

With that, I give it credit as a bottom line usable car to get around with, and actually not in any way uncomfortable. Just very far from a first choice.

Like, if you were so strapped on cash, and time, and one of these was the only viable local offerings, it's....not the end of world. I imagine there's something worse in the Mitsubishi lineup.

Umm... when these generations of fiesta and focus came to the U.S.A. they were already known as euro spec cars that weren't even designed for our market. The previous generation focusesWe got crappier versions of the focus cuz Ford didn't believe we'd pay what Europe would pay for their cars. So we didn't have factories for these vehicles and Ford was gonna give us these euro cars at the cheapest price they could cuz those cars are expensive in Europe. So they outsourced.
The USA has been outsourcing passenger vehicles for a VERY long time. Both GM and ford have been guilty of this for awhile. I'm surprised, you are surprised?

With the exception of our trucks and a couple of sports cars. Most american built cars have been made in Mexico or Canada while most bread and butter Japanese cars and trucks are made here.

My fiance (<2 weeks before wife!) drives a '10 Yaris and I am constantly impressed with it. No power - but it gets a zillion miles to the gallon, is surprisingly spacious, and you can tell a ton of thought was put into it. No wasted space - slide-down rear head rests, back seats slide and can be folded completely flat (you can fit quite a bit in it like this), tons of compartments, etc. It's easily the most practical vehicle I have experienced.

Interesting info to me and no one I know has any interest in purchasing any Ford vehicles.

In my research I found the only Ford vehicles that most of the parts are made in the United States is the Ford Mustang and Ford F-150. My friend how wants to purchase a new vehicle had test drove the Nissan Sentra,Nissan Versa,Toyota Yaris,and Honda Civic. He did not want to spend a lot on a daily driver vehicle. He really liked the 2020 Nissan Versa SV CVT and it is a really nice car for what it is and Nissan very much improved the Versa model since the first year of the Nissan Versa model in 2007. He purchased a 2020 Nissan Versa SV CVT today I am proud of my friend for supporting Nissan and giving Nissan his business so Nissan will continue building our vehicles. From my experience the Nissan Sentra, Nissan Altima, Nissan Maxima, Nissan 350Z, and Nissan 370Z are all reliable/dependable vehicles to own overall and have seen them go 300K+ miles. Also I found that Toyota/Lexus/Scion reliability and dependability is hard to beat only sad part is most of the “Toyota” is made in the United States because all the high quality builds came from Japan. From what I have seen like them or not but Honda’s are solid vehicles to own as well.

Vehicles built under NAFTA have a huge component made in all 3 countries. Which is why dismantling the treaty would have caused havoc in the industry for years. And not benefitted any country. The fact that parts come from the entire trading block means that you, the consumer, get a better deal in the end. And the companies are able to compete price-wise with imports. Political rant over.

So, where do you get the notion that the Fiesta was "made in America"? AFAIK, it's assembled in Izcalli, Mexico.

Globalization rules!
