One of those things that crossed my mind when thinking long term with the Z vs. moving onto grander cars. Maybe something to live with longevity vs. live through temporarily.

As if grocery and mall visits are already a PITA.

Any sports car I've owned I've gotten a lot of hate. It doesnt matter what it's been. People look at sports cars with hate and envy because as the years progress. It gets harder to own one. The enthusiast landscape gets smaller. People make concessions and settle for sporty. I remember when I first bought my Camaro. I was at the walmart parking lot and I opened the passenger door to throw out some trash I had in the car. I flipped the backseat and took out a bag. Then I walked to the trash and threw the stuff out. Went inside to buy my neighbor's son a christmas gift and when I came out... there was ketchup all over my car. All cuz I spent a whole 20 seconds on the passenger side of my car.
When I got the Z people were always trying to tell me about all the cars that were faster. I replied by saying none of the cars you mention handle like mine and most people that own cars can drive them like I can. And I always put my money where my mouth was... so people learned to respect the Z.
Mustang's fly me by no matter what I've driven. But now that I'm in a camaro. I get fly bys 10 times a day. Its fvckin annoying. Mustang owners are the biggest douche bags. The funny part though is... they do the fly bys right before making a turn. They know better than to stay on a str8 with me. But anyway... point is...

Owning a sports car is amazing if you focus on why you bought a sports car in the first place!! The social aspect of ownership is tedious. That's why I prefer just being somewhat of a loner when it comes to car culture. You and a friend can both have cars. He crashes, it changes his outlook. He chooses not to have another sports cars then over time your friend envies you.

1st world problems. Totally stupid.

I do have issues driving my 370z but nothing like the Corvette. Some folks go over the top. You don't even have to be driving it. If they know you have one, the devil horns come out. Some people are just horrible. F'm though. I am going to enjoy life.

Or, it's the last hurrah before everything goes plug-in.

(sorry to rain on this parade, but it's highly unlikely that there's a business model for multiple entries into the budget supercar class.

And having a prancing horse, rampaging bull, or crest from Stuttgart in the driveway is a status symbol. Dropping the price on those just to meet this challenge is not likely.

In the end, it's still a GM product, and will begin to fall apart at 35,000 miles. We'll see how the fit and finish is, and whether the first generation is worth the hype.

Honestly, I suspect that other competitors will simply leap-frog this with electric performance that they can carry on with in future models.

One already fell off?

On the earlier post, I think that Cayman is dead anyway - there will be a few special editions, but I'm guessing that it will be replaced by the Taycan platform in various body forms.

What the C8 will really kill is the up-coming petrol lower end performance cars in the pipeline. I honestly doubt that Alfa and Maserati will bother with the 8C / Alfieri anymore. Perhaps full electric only.

So, although the C8 is a boon to part of the market, it is a double-edged sword to the industry as a whole. I'm OK with it, as long as GM does this car right. It truly is a paradigm shift. If they blow it, they have screwed up the entire market segment for nothing.

40 years of MR concepts. The 5.5litre was being tested back in 2012. I think nothing will go too terribly wrong.

They learned from the Z06 cooling fiasco. The C7's are price to performance leaders as they stand right now. The tech in the C8 exists in the c7. It's just packaged nicer. They've built production MR's before.
My only concern would be the DCT. and that 1000 location memory lift. Hopefully that will go well?

the passenger mirror sticks out further than the driver side.

For one... Nobody expects the exotics to lower there prices. If that's how you interpreted the statement then you're pretty much in your own world of negativity trying to rain on a parade that wasnt scheduled to march on. At best, my train of thought was on the upcoming mazda coupe the upcoming MR2 and the possible upcoming Z/Q60 and next gen WRX.

Two... electric cars are inevitable. They're shoving them down our throats even though they dont even make 5% of car sales. And as much as sports car sales are declining. Theyre still selling 300% more sports cars than EV's.
As far as we know so far... most next gen sports cars will be mild hybrids at best... yes there are 2 or 3 electric sports cars destined to come out but none will be affordable.

As far as your GM comments that haven't held a whole lot of weight since 2005 with the exception of the volt which is cancelled.
As far as corvettes go. I see brand new looking C3, C4 and C5 vettes on city streets pretty much on the regular. And camaro 5's seem to be holding really well out in the meet's. Especially 1LE and Z/28 owners seem to have impeccable examples.

Haters gonna hate though.

Yup, one of us has a problem with English. Or whatever is is you Americans speak down there.

26+ years experience as a manager of a 100+ vehicle fleet (and conversations with other fleet managers) is what I base my comments on. GM is forever giving more problems than the rest put together.

Read the second sentence after your highlight genius.... it makes my first sentence self explanatory. So stick to a Canadian forum if you have no sense of american inference.

When I said that... it wasnt meant for exotics. I meant cars it competes with.

i.e.the cayman
The audi r8
The GTR
and the base mc laren.
Lotus Evora

They're going to have to do more.

Not Ferrari's and lambos or Bugatti's. Come on. Really?. And we are talking about corvettes and sports cars... Not your fleet Malibu. Get real. That's like slighting the Z because NISSAN CVT's get changed every 60,000 miles. Or saying the Z sucks cuz the juke has 117hp... smh
