Default Rc f

Thinking about the RC F as a replacement for the Z. Anyone gone this route? I know it's heavy, but in 4 yrs of owning the Z, I have yet to track it. It would be a garage queen, weekend car for fun. Just think I want something more on the luxury end. Seems like a good option for power, performance, style and comfort. The grill is something I'm undecided on too. Also considering the Q60 red sport, but I just don't think it reaches the performance or the luxury.

Edit - Almost 3 months to the day, I took delivery of an RC-F. I don't think you can really compare it to a Z. It is quick and sporty, but less of a sports car. The Z is kinda rough, directly connected to the road, loud, quick and abrupt where the F is fast, smooth, elegant, controlled, refined, quiet and comfortable. I really really enjoyed the Z, no regrets for my time with it and will miss it. Gotta say this is the best car forum I've been a part of and was a big part of my Z experience, Thanks!

Might be a left-fielder, but have you thought about a Jag F-type?

What are the odds that you will ever track it?

Seems like that might be your deciding factor based on your considerations.

I would say don't ever sell the Z

Why not bring the Z out for a track day? You will not get any ideas from me you are forbidden to ever sell that beautiful Z of yours drive it and enjoy it.

I also have the hots for the RC F. It is a great car but the lack of a manual transmission is preventing me from making the final jump to a Lexus. Plus, the RC F is a heavy vehicle, not quite as nimble or fun to drive as my Z.

I'm a fan. It's heavy, but the trick e-diff makes it turn a lot better than you would expect. Plus, it sounds fantastic. It's like 90% of an M4 with Lexus reliability.

I agree Chuck. Plus it costs about 20% less than an M4 and you do not get to wear the "BMW I own the Road/Douche Bag" lapel pin in the RC F.

I have driven an RCF both on and off track, it does well considering its power to weight. Speed wise it is no different than a Z, dont let the 470 hp fool you. It rides a little harsh on road, but that is the "F" suspension.

The only thing I really disliked about the RC was visibility over the hood on track. With a Z car you feel like you are sitting "in" the car. In the RCF I felt like I was sitting "on" the car.

True, but you have to swap it for an "I drive a Lexus" pin!
(which is fine - if you are a retired doctor, you will fit right in).

Kidding, of course. A lot of Lexus product is under-rated. I drove my boss' 2001 LS430 saloon the other day, and had a total blast. It's basically a V8 Camry with every conceivable luxury, but there's this one button on the dash called "sport" which was VERY compelling. ;-) Bet HE's never hung the tail out while turning left through an intersection, but the car was quite capable of it.

If you just want a car that looks different, sounds good, has some performance stats that won't knock your socks off but aren't bad either, then you could do a lot worse than the RC-F. I wouldn't take it in any trim below the F-Sport, though.

But I'd still cross-shop it against the (V6) Jag.

Then make sure you test drive whatever they hand out as loaner cars. The Jag is better looking, sounding, handling, etc. But it's a Jag. They're more reliable than they were, but that's not a huge step.

With due respect, I think they've come leaps and bounds since Tata bought them out - in terms of product, and reliability. There are a few issues, but they seem to be fiddly things like paint wearing off the paddle shifters. Not even in the league of the problems with old E-Types from days of yore! (and a lot of those were over-blown by the press, although no question that older Jaguars were far from trouble-free, and sometimes the problems were worth walking away from the car for)

I love the grill and that it is a Toyota. Unfortunately Toyota is killing me by sandbagging the introduction of the Supra. After all this wait and teasing it better be something special!

I believe that Porsche is highly overrated and paying Porsche tax is no fun. When you go to the Porsche dealership service or parts department you will get racked over the coals every time. It is hard to believe that Toyota is waiting to come out with the Toyota Supra model after all this waiting. The Toyota Supra is a vehicle worth waiting for though despite Toyota’s engine choice for the Supra model.
