As a previous s2k owner the s2k isn't exactly a torque monster either lol At times I rev to 9k on the s2k feels like I'm going no where. I drove a friends rx8 the are actually similar, as you have to ring out the rpms to get the thing going. But I felt the rx8 was a lot smoother and didn't sound like it was going to blow up at 9k rpm like the s2k.

They didn't rev slow ... you're just bias. I wasn't referring to the AT rx8. The manual is NOT slow. 60 in about 6 seconds. Torque isn't there but I think Mazda makes a better balanced car in the corners then most. It's my preference. I personally agree with Clifford as it needed a turbo. But the Rx 8 is a perfect manual in terms of feel. I like manuals in slower cars. It makes them more fun. Cars that I can get to 100 and beyond very fast. I prefer paddles as its quicker to respond when maneuvering. U like Honda's, I like Mazda's. I'd buy a miata over an S2K Too.
