Seems like a lot of sour grapes from the Z crowd. Why's it so hard to admit that a car that costs 2x as much as yours just might be better?

Another factor is my Z will be due for emissions testing in a year and a half and theres not a chance in hell it will pass so I would have to get creative with that. What would you guys do??
If u can't buy it cash u can't "afford" it. Payoff ur z and drive it 5 yrs from da day u pay it off.

Also while you may be able to afford the z06 and its payments the upkeep for owning one will not be the same. Those tires alone cost a fortune and the rims have a stupid internal design that most shops can not even change the tires on (our dealer couldn't, 3 other designated tire shops couldn't and we had to take it to California wheels who do a lot of specialty wheels, put it in their cage and inflate with about 150 psi to seat the beads, cheatah bead blaster won't work).

Cool car and fast for the money but I would never ever ever own American or German after working in the field. Just my opinion.

Also if you can afford a z06 wouldn't a GTR be in range?

Oh also if you track your car be ready for oil consumption. Already a bulletin posted by GM that oil consumption and oil in the intake is normal for "aggressive driving" and you will need to replace the air filter after such event since it will become oil soaked after sitting and all the oil from the PCV runs down into it, saw it first hand with a new stingray (not the same as the z06 but similar enough that I would not be surprised).
K&N filter and charger kit should fix that.

Better is subjective to the driving experience you're looking for. To me, the more analog a car feels, the better. I don't care if the best performance car is completely electronic. I'd choose the less expensive analog car.

I like for my senses to be connected to the car. I hate muted cars. In my opinion. Adding tons of horses doesn't compensate for the numbness... On the other hand zero torque but great handling is equally annoying. The Z is visceral and balanced. It's unique in feel.

Corvette is Bad ***.... but I love my Z for what it is. Nothing more, nothing less.

You would need an oil catch can system for that. Strange they don't have these as OEM equipment, now that the piston rings are low tension in performance engines to reduce friction.

I 100% hear what you're saying (I do own a Ducati instead of a UJM that would have been 2/3 the price and probably slightly faster). However, I'm hearing a bunch of excuses from Z owners along the lines of "ours looks better, ours is cheaper, blah blah blah...." the same Z owners who then turn around and say "what about a GT-R if you want to spend that kind of money?" Talk about a disengaged, unexciting-looking car... and the 'Vette is still cheaper. By a lot. Like you could have a Z06 AND a 370Z for the cost of one of those things these days.

I don't like brand loyalists who are unwilling to admit that their particular car isn't the best thing since sliced bread in every category. It reeks of butthurt.

As a side note the Z has zero torque IMO. I came from Mustangs though so my opinion is skewed. I bought the Z for its looks and handling characteristics more than anything. And for the fact that the nismo (at the time) didn't come in AT so I wouldn't have to worry about people who can't drive owning one.

for me it has nothing to do with fan boy ism, this is my first Nissan and so far I love it but I also liked the Acuras I worked on when I worked for them. For me I know GM quality first hand and it's just not that great. I would rather pay the extra $$ up front than deal with it later on the back end. If not owning then sure maybe it would be a cool car to be on loan for a few years and turn it in but I don't lease cars so that's out of the question. Just as an example just wait till the fuel level sensors crap out, which will happen multiple times throughout the life of the vehicle as GM cant make a fuel pump or level sensor to save their life, and guess who is the only manufacture to not have a fuel pump access door? you guessed it Chevy. So now it takes about 15-18hrs labor to drop the tanks which requires dropping the sub frame and trans just to change level sensors. Genius design huh.

Dude fawk the Z, I'd drive it straight into a ditch for a chance of owning a Z06 though I loved my Z I am a man who takes no wagon, if you can afford it there should be ZERO AND I MEAN ZERO doubt that it's better than the Z in every category... Buy warranty and you're set.

Again, personal preference.

To me, the Vettes are hideous in the rear and inside, and the Z is the exact opposite. They're good looking all the way around. So why would I pick the Vette over the Z? I don't pick a car strictly for performance. If that were the case, I'd be driving around in a new Mustang GT right now instead of the Z. But again, that car is good looking on the outside but cheap and ugly on the inside, hence why I chose the base Z.

And I chose the base Z over the Sport because I didn't want the 19" Rays, the rear spoiler, or any of that electronic noise cancelling/piped in exhaust sound crap that comes standard on the Sport. Oh, and I certainly don't need a tiny display that tells me what gear I'm in. That's just totally useless. I'm not going to pay for stuff I don't want. The only thing the Sport has going for it is the larger brakes and VLSD. But for $500 I can have just as good brakes if not better with slotted rotors and carbon pads. The diff (if I decide to upgrade it), another $1500 installed.

Again, it's all personal preference.

If someone wants to be a Vette or a Mustang, go right ahead. It's your money and what you like. No problem with that at all.

Let's think about this for a minute. As far as I can remember, GM only came out with two production vehicles with the engines elsewhere than the front, the Chevy Corvair and Pontiac Fiero.

They weren't very successful, and definitely not known for they superior handling or reliability. Just saying...

Plenty of us finance our cars and pay them off with no problems, just because we didn't fork over $30K-$$40K cash don't mean we couldn't afford it. Millionaires lease and finance just a we do too. OP do what you like, your life, your money, EMBRACE THE MOMENT!!!
