2018 Toyota Supra

If it has Mcpherson type front struts like the Zn6, it can go back to the shed the Mk4 supra died in.

It looks like you guys are letting some purported leaks on some 3rd rate auto news sites override your logic and reason.

1) The "news" is BS
2) Toyota could not sell it. I am 90% certain I will buy the new Supra/FT-1 (if that is what it is called), but having a BMW engine is a certain deal-breaker.
3) The 86 has a Toyota engine even though it was co-developed by Subaru. If Toyota were to use another companies engine, then it would be Subaru.
4) Correct me if I am wrong, but Toyota (or Lexus) has never used another manufacturer's engine.

Although I don't dispute your assertion as to the veracity of these reports, I'm not certain that past practices are entirely indicative of current or future business models. Modern business pressures demand lateral thinking like never before. Certain opportunities might only be realized by forging new partnerships. Some models would never exist without them. Not saying that's a good thing, but it's becoming reality.

I would expect the BWM motor(s) with Toyota part numbers and a few other odds and ends taken from, say, Denso, and (possibly) a Yamaha head. It will have a Toyota ECU, tho'...

The 86/FRS has a Subaru designed and built engine (FA20). It does use the Toyota DI fuel system but it is not a Toyota engine. In Toyota applications, it carries a Toyota engine code but that doesn't make it Toyota designed engine. The whole architecture of it screams Subaru as it's the EJ replacement.

This Supra would probably be the second Toyota car using a non-Toyota designed engine that I'm aware of.

Thanks for the correction. The 86 is indeed a rebadged Subaru, but if the "Supra" is a rebadged BMW it better be something special, or they've lost me as a buyer.

Mazda's HCCI tech. If it reaches the rotary and revolutionizes that engine? I'm back in a Mazda. Balee dat.

But given the wonderfully designed Toyota engines in their recent sport attempts with the LFA and the ISF, RCF, and GSF just disappointing to hear they'll potentially tarnish the Supra legacy by outsourcing the engine. The BMW turbo 6s respond great to tunes, but damn don't call it a supra.
I dunno. I gotta wait and see. The real magic to 90's Toyota's wasn't just the JZ series engines it was the tuning. So maybe, Toyota will produce a proprietary intake manifold/plenum, turbos and other bits along with special tuning. It just depends how they go about it?

I just hope they don't mass produce the 2018 Toyota Supra. This vehicle will be priced out of the average customers budget and price range. Something tells me it will be in the Nissan GTR price range. I don't like how BMW helped design this vehicle it will not be the same as the older model Toyota Supra. I am hoping that they have turbocharged platform on this vehicle.

As promised, the Z4 concept as it appeared at Pebble Beach...

Though frankly, I prefer what's behind it in this shot. ;-)
