In response to the Corvette Z06 comments and as a previous C5 Vette owner and general Corvette enthusiast, I can clear up a few things.

Firstly: A 370Z Nismo is nowhere near the price of a C7 Stingray. Not even in the ballpark. The base Stingray will cost you at least 20K more for a base one. That is the case in Canada anyway.
Secondly: Corvettes prior to the C7 generation were geared towards older (retired), bigger (usually overweight or with limited mobility) drivers and that is why the seats always sucked and the suspension on base models was extremely soft (Buick like). You cannot make comfortable, body hugging seats when 90% of your cars are geared towards the above-mentioned demographic. Entering and exiting the car needed to be very easy and therefore the seats did not have any significant bottom or side bolstering.
With the new C7, GM changed all that and they now come with excellent seats especially the optional sport seats which are amazing. It is obvious that they are now trying to sell to a younger consumer. But, will younger consumers catch on. The dilemma is that they may not be able to afford it and GM may end up alienating the original older Corvette buyer. But, based on sales numbers, GM's plan is working.
Thirdly: Mechanically, GM LS engines are pretty-well bulletproof. Probably the best compact aluminum V8 engine package available. The new LT engines are probably just as reliable since they are still based on the LS but with direct injection and cylinder de-activation. However, where GM always fails is with the electronics. The new C7 Corvette is chock full of electronic doodads that will become a total nightmare for any one keeping the C7 for longer than 4-5 years or past warranty. Anytime this amount of electronic technology finds itself in a GM car, I get nervous. Trust me, I know. GM still are way behind the Japanese when it comes to the reliability of their electronic components. Too much low-priced outsourcing and too little development, in my opinion.

The C7 Corvette is an amazing sports car for the price and nothing comes close. But, it's not always about speed. Reliability is extremely important and should never be overlooked.

Personally, I would never get another Corvette no matter how good it may be. I just don't like the stigma that goes along with owning one. It just made me feel old. I don't know how else to put it. Also, every time I drove it I was always worried about what other intermittent electronic failure I would get. Yes, I had an older generation Vette but based on what I was reading on the Corvette forum recently, the C7's are already plagued by a lot of electronic gremlins.

I'm so glad I'm in a 370Z Nismo now!

370z is a no frills, rough and tumble, direct, nimble and quick little fun sports car with tons of feedback and it's truckish engine responsiveness becomes very charming once you've gotten over it's awkward torque delivery from a sports car. But when you push it. It works so well. It feels great when couple with the taught low COG suspension and it's direct perfectly weighted steering. On the 7 AT, you can drive the Z in gears 2,3,4,&5 so aggressively and DRM mimics heal and toe on every shift or you just knock it right back into D to reduce the drama pulling up to a light.

I'm considering Jun exhaust cams once I buy my Z35 to give it a Lil more character. Also dabbled with the thought of trading my current Z for this Nismo Z this year and buying a Z35 next year.

There are lots of awesome cars out there. But for me, there's something special about the Z. Everyone has that special car. Whether it be an e46 m3 or a c5 corvette.

In this generation of vehicles there were two cars that drove like nothing else, The Z and the Evo X.
Their may be faster, more expensive and higher quality cars. But these two driving dynamics for the coin is unreal. No car under $50,000 brand new feels like them.

Check the new Camaro SS out - Vette engine and tranny with a bit extra weight but a lot cheaper. May be the sweet spot. I don't care for their looks all that much, but the 1LE (appearance.handling) and ZL1 models (appearance/supercharger) models look better and are on their way. Test driving one of the SS models may have been a mistake as I liked the damn thing.

Oh, regaeding the Z06 and 370Z pricing...the base 370Z IS so shitty it shouldn't be compared to a Porsche. Lol. Only the Nismo can be compared to the Porsche. And.....at the price of a Nismo you can get a C6 Z06 with over 500 HP that's 200 lbs lighter.

My guess is low 20s for a 2009. Either way, it's an unrealistic comparison.

Either way, anyone in the market for a 2006-2007 z06 (40-45k budget for a 10 year old car), and trying to compare to a new car seriously needs to do more research.

Picked up my 09 sport touring for under 13 if that helps answer your question...had a little over 100,000 on the clock when i picked it up though so take that for what it's worth

I own a piece of s**t base model that is in the shop getting a BP turbo, OS Giken LSD, Akebono Sport Brakes, T3 Rotors, Project Mu Pads, Short Shifter, 6 puck clutch/flywheel from specialty Z, uprev tune, Racer Gauges, Work T7R Wheels, and stuff I can't even remember at this point.

So I guess I am just a douche bag, cheap ****, S**ty base model Z owner who thinks I have a porsche. I don't hate on other peoples cars because I love cars, especially porsche!... so in this case I will just say, I feel bad for your vette. It deserves better than you.

Yes they do. I see at least 3 new c7 z06's everyday as well as 14 now at cars and coffee. The corvette and zo6 model are so common it sorta takes the value out of it for me. Plus I don't have an aarp card yet so there's that too.

Holds its value? It does not. Local dealership not even private owner already has a 2016 Z06 3lz manual marked down to 79,999. I do believe a 3lz model is an msrp of 89k and change before options. Thing hasn't left the lot and dropped 10k already.

Also I saw you mention the gtr doesn't preform like a Z06.....ha! Ok buddy.

Well, if I recall correctly the C7 Z06 got its *** handed to it by a GTR in a head to head by Motortrend, or car and driver. So, yea, you bet your life it doesnt perform like a GTR..lol.

That was a gtr nismo and driven by Randy Pobst. I think it was close also. I would say the 2 cars are pretty close, especially if driven by regular people. The nismo is faster but also costs a lot more. Both are great cars.

How did that happen? We were as surprised as you. The Z06 has obvious weight, power, and grip advantages, and yet it lost by more than a second. In fact, it barely beat the even less powerful (and lighter) Porsche 911 GT3’s lap time despite a whopping 175-hp and 326-lb-ft advantage. Here’s what the data showed: The Z06 generally out-braked the NISMO and carried more speed through the middle of most corners, but the NISMO was back on the throttle sooner and carried more speed out. What’s more, the NISMO was significantly faster on the straights, besting the Z06’s top speeds by 6 and 7 miles per hour on the front and back straights."

It was the nismo and one can argue it was a 150k Nissan vs a 110-120k vette since I would assume Chevy sent the biggest baddest one with all the c7 pack and leve 3 aero. However that level 3 aero restricts it's straightaway speeds so vette guys cried that as an excuse in that gtr lap time challenge.
