I thought the base was suppose to be around 35k or so.

I'll be in my bunk!

Saw the Z400( Z official name me thinks) last night.
IMO, pretty boring.
Looks much identical to PROTO.
The hated front grille/ opening, not changed save for some egg-crate insert.
Can see the aftermarket guys on this as we speak. A GTR style bar would look great
and lower the look of the front.
Overall, have to agree the Z is a bunch of old parts. Nothing said about the twin
turbo engine. At 40k selling price to start, seems to me a tough sell.
I am just not blown out on the total package. At least not in the way when I saw the
rebirth Z in 2002.

Well to keep cost down and nissan can't afford to build a whole new Z.

Hell if Toyota can't build a new supra without partnering up with BMW, no way in hell nissan have a chance. Basically its a body kit and I'm sure Toyota made their own performance mods to the BMW engine.
At least nissan is using most of their own recycled parts sort of speak for the most part. But other than the 3.0 tt engine and hopefully the auto trans will be good.
But the question is, has nissan improved on the 370z chassis for the updated Z?

For 40k base, the new Z is pretty sweet! Can't wait to see and drive it live. I'll be getting one for sure!

Oh, and 3.7 sec 0 - 60 (estimated from an article I read last night given the new Z specs) for that price is insane... and that's with a factory warranty and eliminates me having to add piping... and all the headaches of aftermarket chaos.

Spooler 08-18-2021 08:53 AM

Not a big fan of the it. No Nismo version with a factory body kit. I will pass.

It's more like 4.25s (5s - 15% is 4.25s) still fast but not sub 4 second fast although I'm sure a tune will get it to sub 4s and I bet that's the number the nimso version will be showing

You are correct.
Many points, most negative on kicking off the new Z at this time.
A major point is price . Even if Nissan offered a really new Z, from the bottom up, that was priced near 60K, there would be a search for buyers.
Add this to the number of true performance sports buyers out there, it is a small number. Times have changed, many do not really care what they drive
or even own a vehicle. Yes, smart for Nissan to offer tried and true parts in
a package with more power. But, price will be the driver.
To paraphrase a line from the cheesy reveal video, I am (not)stoked.

I guess we don't know yet... I was just quoting an article's estimate based on what they know of the engine/platform. 4.25... ok, I'm cool with that.

I know I’m an old fart, but can someone explain why I need to know the “turbo speed”? Oh, and a voltmeter? Seriously? I’d be happier with a nice classy analog clock. Flame away!

Yes! Price! Anything over 40G out the door and I’m out.

Best estimate I have is Sport will be $39K, and Performance will be $46K. This car is not cheap for Nissan to make. The V6 twin turbo is not simple to manufacture, and the engine and car is made in Japan. The assembly line is the same assembly line as the GT-R. I'd rather pay a little more and get a car that is truly made in Japan instead of someplace like Mexico. If you can't afford it, maybe you should be looking at a Toyota GR 86.

Yeah, I had the same initial thought about "turbo speed" as you. WTF? :icon14:

Ok, now watch some obnoxious "expert" pontificate about why it's absolutely necessary and crucial. :tiphat:

Being able to afford it and justifying the price are two different things. If all you got is it’s not as expensive as the BMW errrrr... Supra, you have nothing.

The Z isn’t even in the same stadium, nevermind game as the GTR, so let’s not go there.

Law Enforcement Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?

Me: according to my gauge... 250,000 miles an hour?

LEO: step out of the car please...
