Default Switching the Synthetic oil

My first oil change is coming up soon, and i was thinking of switching to royal purple synthetic with a magnetic drain plug. I figured i would still change around every 3k or so miles even with the synthetic oil, anyone have any thoughts on this? am i being a little to careful with it? i do push the car from time to time, have never redlined to 9, but to 7 several times in 3/4

What does your vehicle's owner's manual recommend?

Other than the hit to your pocketbook, there is nothing wrong with changing oil often after the break-in period - change it every 500 miles if it makes you feel better. That said, most modern oils will last 5000 miles or more, so 3000 is on the conservative side. If you are still under warranty, stick to the schedule (IIRC, 3750 miles). If your car is a garage queen and doesn't get driven much, you may want to go to a time-based schedule (eg, every 9 months).

Many people have many different claims as to what works best and what does not, theres also plenty of info on our oil out there. As far as 3,000 Miles once you have broken it in (at least 15k on the odo) 4-5k is the suggestion.

Personally, I'd let Blackstone Labs do an oil analysis and tell me exactly what interval would be safe to run.

Um what does "never redlined to 9" mean.... you do realize the engine is governed to stop at around 7500rpms.

Let me know if you make it to 9000 rpms haha

Also royal purple is junk. Use Amsoil signature series for a top of the line synthetic oil.

Use the recommended oil from oem. Mobil 1. My nissan dealer in San marcos texas has it for 39.95 full synthetic. I've been using this since brand new and I am currently at 27k miles. After warranty use what you please. Synthetics are pretty much the same and based on what you like the most.

Mobile 1 isn't OEM. Nissan Ester Oil is what comes with the Z. And those oil changes cost nearly 3x of what you quoted if you let the stealership do it.

I have a maintenance plan for Ester oil every 7500 miles through MPP.

5000 miles is the currently recommended first oil change.

I think 2010 was the last year Nissan recommended ester oil. Current recommendations are for just plain old oil.

Well as the guy with the highest mileaged Z here, I would wait for the break in period to be done and switch to a good synthetic oil and change it ever 5000 miles.

Nissan recommends ester, but not required. Nor will any dealer add it unless you ask and pay extra. MPP told me to use ester and do changes every 7500 which is the ester rotation or every 3750 with dino oil. I elected the latter.

Edit: Not the latter... the former, the former!!!

Nah. Service manual, owners manual, maintenance manual for 2011 and later don't recommend synthetic in general nor ester in particular. 2014 recommend oil changes every 5000 miles. It's in the manual. It's what Nissan recommends.

I'm not going to get in a pissing match about oil, but it does say it recommends ester. I called Nissan and asked specifically. I then called MPP and asked them the same question, they both gave me the same answer. Any 5W30 oil is 100% fine, buuuuut they do recommend the ester.

In my 2013 book, it's on page 9-2. On page 9-1 and the last page, it shows recommended specifications

The only vehicle that REQUIRES ester is the GTR. Most people aren't going to want to spend $100 on oil changes for this car, especially when dealerships are promoting free oilchanges or discounted ones. Who wants to give out free $100 changes?

Now back to sipping my Dr Pepper and Captain Black; Cheers

I use Mobil 1 through my dealer and it's 39.95 for full synthetic. I would be more than happy to email you the flyer from them if you care to see. I'm pretty sure it's not the other type you have listed.
