It appears as though there isn't a permanent fix for this yet. Even with the new springs and the "penny" or "nickel" fixes, the springs just compress again over time.

It appears as though there isn't a permanent fix for this yet. Even with the new springs and the "penny" or "nickel" fixes, the springs just compress again over time. It's a design flaw in the hatch. The load of the hatch is not enough for two springs. If there were more springs to share the burden of initially lifting the hatch, it likely wouldn't be an issue. This is something Nissan should take back to the drawing board and fix in future models. Unfortunately for us, there's not much we can do other than temporary fixes.
