That blows! At least it's less of a hassle now.

I'm not clear on this. Do we have to contact the dealer or is there a recall and we will be notified by mail?

They advised the new Steering Lock Unit is in stock and I have scheduled an appointment for Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 2pm.

Would like to thank everyone for their valuable input. Keeping fingers crossed the Unit is RevD which is the good one. I currently have RevB.

Will let all know after install.
Note my earlier post. Based on the information supplied here, I took it upon myself to contact the dealership rather than wait for a notice from Nissan. I read that most of the dealerships have already received the notice directly from Nissan, so why wait for them. My dealership verified the recall, set aside the new part, and made an appointment. Just saying...........

We're gonna camp in front of Nissans North America Headquarters waiting for our checks for those of us whose SLU's have already failed.

I paid to have mine fixed last week for $1200, called Nissan support and they set up a case number, only to call me this morning to say "sorry, your car is out of warranty". I called Nissan Consumer Affairs and they said someone would call me within the hour. They did and they asked me to fax my bill from the dealer of the repair and they said a check is on the way- FULL REIMBURSEMENT.

My question is...should I pull the fuse on the replacement SLU lol.

Yes, kinda, they will ALL fail at some point or another... So it's up to you to ride it out, or just say f-it, and pull the fuse

My question is this, If there is a recall and the replacing part fails will they repair again for free? since its recall?

I'll put money on, no.

Right now, and one of our Nissan dealers can confirm, but the recall is probably for Revision A&B for '09-'10...

Meaning that if they fix it with a Rev D. and THAT goes out in another 3-5 years, you'll still be screwed.
They'll probably give the standard 12mo/12k mile warranty on the replacement part

It doesn't include my 2011 (unless they add more VINs to the list later). I'm glad I have already pulled the fuse.

I suspect you're absolutely correct... I asked my local dealer what the replacement part was, but they don't even have that info yet. I assume it's Rev D or something that is still garbage. This is a half-assed recall IMO

Spoke with a local Nissan dealer in Australia and they say this problem does not effect Australian 370Z's as they are right hand drive and use a different steering lock. Sounds like crap to me. Has anyone in Aus had the Steering lock problem?

Even if they keep fixing it for free forever, there is a high risk of being stranded when it fails.
