370Z Battery Life Expectancy

I wanted to start a thread where people could post how long their car batteries lasted in order to gauge
actual battery life expectancy. Just got my OEM battery changed after dealer and Advance Auto Parts
recommendation->

34,334 miles, 2 years 4 months (OEM battery)

Z eliminator 10-03-2011 07:45 AM

Mine lasted 2 year and 4 months
it dead now.

Zaggeron 10-03-2011 08:18 AM

I'd have them check the charging system. Batteries usually last longer than 2.5 years. I've never had one last less than 5 years -- Z might be tough on batteries though ...

RandyD 10-03-2011 09:25 AM

I open the roof with the car off all the time... expecting that will kill it early..

bvl 10-05-2011 08:14 AM

If you go through long stretches of not driving it, invest in a battery tender trickle charger. This goes a long way to helping battery life (and preventing no starts) on those types of vehicles. I have been using one for years on the motorcycle and the previous roadster prior to picking up the ZR which will see it a bit this winter :)

my OEM battery on the frontier lasted about a year and a half. i chalk it up to my after market HID's that kept deep cycling the battery when i turned them on that killed it. i put in a deep cycle battery and it lasted 4 years or so, just replaced it this spring

kenchan 10-05-2011 02:35 PM

my Z is on battery manager (tender) during the weekdays since she is my weekend hobby car. that said, the battery is in very healthy condition.

my G who has been with me since day one in 2004 is still on original battery and cranking hard. i think most battery fatigue happen from short-distance driving or excessive heat. i put her on battery tender on the weekends since i dont use the car and use my Fit to go to the stores.

my commute is about a 22-23mile round trip. not enough to have a full charge as the battery manager takes about 2hrs to get to float. if i hook up my Z to the battery manager immediately after driving for 50 miles or so on my weekend drive, the battery floats within 5-10min. big difference.

kenchan 10-05-2011 02:36 PM

btw, battery tender can be had from amazon for about $25. it's worth every penny imho. :)

I've had mine since May of 09 and it's my dd. I've had no issues with the batt so far, And I'm just at 15k. Im guessing probably another year before it poops

Baer383 10-05-2011 10:03 PM

The average life span of an automotive battery is 4 years.

kenchan 10-06-2011 03:13 PM

will see how well my 7yr old battery holds up in 0F. :D hahaha. i do plan to swap it out for a redtop when it finally flakes. :)

only 4 years?

dang all the other cars we've had have gone 7+ years.

azn370z 10-06-2011 04:13 PM

My battery on my 350z lasted at least 4 years, 50k miles, sold the car. I drive my z daily, about 20 miles total trip.

RedRocketRick 10-11-2011 11:02 AM

What's a good battery charger

Sounds like if you live up north, or only drive the Z on weekends, a good battery "maintainer" is a sound investment. Anyone have a good brand/type recommendation for the Z. I've been reading that it needs to be able to charge and then float the battery to keep it in good shape with either sporadic driving or only short drives.

kenchan 10-11-2011 11:29 AM

hey fortwaye is my kinda town. :D just for that i will send you a linky:

Anybody else got their 370Z battery replaced?

theDreamer 10-15-2011 10:44 AM

2.4 years and 36k miles

neveucd 11-03-2011 10:14 AM

Mine just crapped out also....2 yrs 7 months at around 41k miles.

Guard Dad 11-04-2011 12:22 AM

Heat has a BIG impact on battery life. Check out the latest Road & Tack's Q&A section for a discussion of battery life. With only an occasional exception (5+ years with our 2004 T-bird with the battery in the trunk) we get 18-28 months on a battery regardless of the type of car or the brand of battery. That's for daily drivers in suburban in SoCal.

I need some help pls!!

Huan'z 08-14-2012 12:51 AM

Could anyone here can tell what is the problem of my z. I used my z dd last year and bought a new Kia forte to replace the z as dd. then most of the time the z only for my weekends hangout. Last week went out of town and parked the z for a whole week no power on. Then when get back home. Grab my key fob and unlock the z to get my wallet and it's work fine. Next next day (today. August 13, 2012) try to get something in the z and unlock using key fob but the car doesn't work. Try many ways but nothing happen. Then have to use the attached key to unlock the z. When I open the door. The dome lights doesn't turn on the try to start the car (brake+power on button) doesn't work too. Then insert my key fob under the steering wheels then tried to turn on again doesn't work too. Kinda worries if the car problem or just a battery. To make it shorter. There's nothing work. Even any lights or whatever. The car now totally dead. Had the car for about 2.5 years. And dd for about 1.5 years and weekends only for about 1 year. Could anyone here can tell what I need to do and what I should do? Do the dealer cover the battery or something? Pls help. Thanks in advance!

Get the battery checked and charged.

If its still good? attach a trickle charger to it

Huan'z 08-14-2012 01:42 AM

What is trickled charger? Sorry for the stupidity. I had a portable jumper the brand is black and decker. Attached the red to red and black to black for about 30 mins. Then tried to start the car but Nothing happen. Do u think I need to take out the battery and bring it to the autozone or Walmart? And also what is best brand of battery for replacement.

And also what Do I need to reset after replaced the battery? Do I need to bring it to dealer or can I do it by myself? Do all the reset setting in the navigation monitor or have to manually do it? Thank!:)

3yrs 10.5k miles. i plan to go another 7yrs on the stock battery.

give you an idea, my 8yr old G is on stock battery and still going strong. the trick is to add water when needed and put it on battery manager when car is not in use for more than a few days.

Huan'z 08-14-2012 03:41 PM

Battery manager??? And honestly. I'm not familiar with the battery. And called to my dealer. They said 2011+ come with 36 months replacement warranty. But 2010 below no warranty. They will charge me 89.99 + tax for replacement and labor. And they even tow my car and diagnose or pin point the problem without any charge. So all I need is 89.99 plus tax. But I think just gonna go Walmart and grab a "everstart Maxx-35" call the Walmart and that's the only one compatible with our z. The walmart come with 3 years replacement warranty but the new battery from dealer come with 48 months replacement warranty. So im kinda thinking if straight to dealer and get a new battery or just Walmart? And also in Walmart system just showing 2009. But I believe 2009-2010 no diff.

90 bucks + tax is not bad if it is a decent battery

Huan'z 08-14-2012 09:13 PM

Got my battery tested and it's good. Like 88% so the battery is not a issue. Any idea guys? My car totally dead. No interior lights as in nothing at all.

You're probably still under bumper to bumper if it's a 2010 so just call the dealer and tell them what's up. They should have it towed and fix it under warranty.

Thechidz 08-14-2012 10:04 PM

just changed mine at 32k miles and about 2 years 10 months in car. BUT, I was having major problems with my navigation system and having it worked on so I'm SURE that contributed to the battery dyeing.

For some reason. When I reattached the battery after get it tested and charged even 88% when they tested it. Then this lights come on 24/7. Kinda weird. I think need to tow it to dealer. Any idea out there guys??

Huan'z 08-14-2012 11:55 PM

I step hard on the brake and the brake lights come on. But still can't start the car. Or the whole interior lights doesn't come on. Ummmm... This is crazy. Tom is my birthday but have to be at dealer. Damn it. Is not a birthday. But a bad day!!!:(

Towed to the dealer. The dealer will pay for it if your car below 3 years old. Since my car just 2 years old.

Got the problem. The dealer called and said the problem was "body control module" consider a brain of the car? Thats wht i heard from him... and that's also the main caused of "steering lock"

They will replace it and it's under warranty. Order it by today and over night ship. My car should be ready by Tom. Yay!!:)
