My battery still works at 36k/3.5 yrs.

Footloose301 10-31-2012 07:42 PM

Think I should buy one this weekend. I used to DD my Z but I moved a year ago and only use it on the weekends. Starting it up tonight it barely wanted to turn over, so it seems to not want to hold a charge.

Stock battery.
41k.
2 years and 1 month so far.

I'll probably get the red top Optima.

redline727 10-31-2012 07:55 PM

3years 5months 18,800 miles still cranking.(I got it used 16months ago with 10k miles on it I imagine its the original battery) It's my DD but I don't go far. Take the highway to and from work just to open it once a week.

6MT 10-31-2012 07:56 PM

Well there is a draw on the battery. Blinking dash light. However small, still a draw. And over a few months, it will drain the battery. I used to park my Z for up to 5 months. Yes, winters here suck! Many times, there wasn't enough to even turn on the dome light. After charging, everything worked fine. I only had my Z for 3 years though.

But I do sell batteries and I've always believed that after 5 years, you've gotten your money's worth and are kind of rolling the dice. The oem battery is nothing to write home about, but you should probably get 4 or 5 years out of it as a D.D.. Storing the Z and not giving the battery some kind of maintenance will shorten the life span. And by maintenance, I mean trickle charging with an automatic (shutting off) type of charger. Adding water shouldn't be necessary unless you over charge it. (Thus the automatic charger.)

Mine is 4yrs old and ready to be changed. Daily drive, 32k miles, 2 winters driven and 2 stored. She's on a trickler this year and the charge isn't holding well.

SgtRay5150 03-12-2013 08:06 AM

2nd Battery in 4 years :P

was just wondering the same thing about battery life. Have 09 370z Touring w/ 28000 miles on her. Already replaced battery once and this morning on way out the door to golf.....slow cranked twice and then died :P Voltmeter was reading 14.4 yesterday...I'm guessing the OEM battery only lasts about 2 years :)

kenchan 03-12-2013 11:26 AM

if going by the car's volt meter, you have to look at it while your car is ON but engine NOT running. otherwise you're only seeing the volts the alternator's cranking out (14.4v).

for the true test, you need to use an ammeter test to get your cca.

you check your water level at all? im going to be checking mine this summer.

trickle chargers can be bad for the battery as it cant stop charging like a battery manager (tender) which floats after full charge.

Stolly08 03-12-2013 12:03 PM

Still on the original battery on my 07 HR and I have 2 - 12's so it gets a workout! I've never seen a battery last this long.

My Z is on original battery - 11,700 miles and 2009. Of course it appears to have been parked most of it's life since 11,233 when I bought it divided by 4 years is about 2800 miles a year / 233 miles a month approximately. I opened one of the reservoirs the liquid level was about nominal on the first one anyway. I hesitate to add any distilled water in the fear that I'll accidentally put too much and then have acid splashy issues from sloshing up out the vents.
I wouldn't be shocked at all this summer if it went belly up but for now appears to be fine engine off levels look OK.

kenchan 03-12-2013 12:41 PM

my car is around 12K miles an 09 as well.

when i added distilled water to my G's battery (i do this every 2yrs) i use a small squeeze bottle like this. i just peek inside while adding so that i can monitor the plastic indicator inside. the indicator just needs to make contact with the water.

make sure to wear gloves and goggles. just in case.

I wish Nissan used the same OEM batteries that are used in Miatas. My girlfriend's is eight years old and still going strong. She thought about replacing it because of it's age, but doing some investigation it seems 10 years is pretty normal. I'm sure some has to do where you live, but she is here in Chicago which will certainly test a battery. Panasonic makes them.

4 years 50,000 miles finally going out

N0SL3N 06-24-2013 10:45 AM

Mine (09) is still on the original battery and I have noticed recently that it is taking a bit longer to crank.

No winter driving and stock stereo?

What do people recommend for a replacement? Optima?

My original battery ('09, just turned 20k miles) is still going strong. I had to add some water recently (dealer couldn't seem to handle the job even after discussing the fact that, no, my car did not have a maintenance-free battery).

Battery technology has made some major leaps in the last decade or so and even a cheap battery is pretty good nowadays. Use the site search feature for more info and opinions.

fonzo179 06-24-2013 11:27 AM

I've had my Z almost 3 yrs now. No issues from the battery.

dennis26 06-25-2013 06:37 PM

Have 2010 with 22,500 miles no problems so far.

i would just get a cheap one from walmart called EverStart or something.
mr.galeforce recommended it. it has an advertised 640 CCA.

just bring your old battery to walmart after you're done. they can dispose it.
or, if you want, bring the old battery and they give you a discount for the core.

check the post location and orientation before you buy, but this is wat i found when i searched:

:iagree:
GJ. just for reference, my 9yr old G's battery is still going strong.

all i do is add distilled water to the battery after a full charge every other year, and just keep it on battery tender while car is parked for more than a couple of days.

L33T Z34 07-29-2013 06:00 AM

My '09 OEM battery lasted 4 years, 3 months. My Z build date is FEB 09. My Z has sat in a garage most of its life w/the battery disconnected. I replaced it w/an Interstate Mega-Tron + (MTP-35).

tunafish 08-01-2013 09:52 PM

How can you tell this is compatible with a 2013 touring?

Mine is 4 years and 2 months old right now.

Sometimes I have to charge it before a track event if I haven't driven it in 2 or 3 months, but once charge, its holds the charge just fine. Started today with no problems after sitting two weeks.

dennis26 08-15-2013 08:43 AM

2010 just turned 24,000 miles no problems so far.

MyKindaGuise 08-28-2013 01:31 PM

Mine just died this week....17k miles and 1.5years.

My question is....

Buy stock battery for $112 at dealer
or go to local Advance Auto and by this guy for $172
Buy Optima Batteries RedTop Starting Battery, Group Size 35, 720 CCA 35 at Advance Auto Parts

i hear optima's quality went downhill since moving production to mexico. this is hearsay, so dont know for sure.

per mr.gale's recommendation, i would get a duralast/ever start from your local auto parts store or walmart. i believe either can take your old battery for a discount on your new one.

sounds good, float is wat the battery needs. :) adding distilled water also helps.

lauj 08-28-2013 03:16 PM

2010 42,000 miles. Mine just died yesterday. I had it for 3 yrs and replaced it with Optima red top.

kenchan 08-29-2013 04:36 PM

For those of you in hot climates, might want to check the water level more often.

cause i think it's evaporating due to the excessive heat.

1325 08-29-2013 04:44 PM

65K+ since June 2010. Still cranking strong.

aesthetk1 09-02-2013 03:20 AM

Mine lasted almost exactly 3 years. 49k miles

tonythetiger 09-19-2013 11:03 PM

3 yrs close to 50,000miles on the z, no issue with batteries so far!

mults 11-11-2013 12:08 PM

Just put the Z away yesterday, and it was cranking a little slow. I am of the opinion to replace before it is dead. The car is an 2010 with a little over 18k and is stored for 5 months per year with a Battery Tender. When I take her out of storage, a new battery will be installed. Now, all I have to do is figure out which one to use. This will give me something to do over the long winter (search will be my friend).

kenchan 11-11-2013 01:24 PM

did you ever check the water level? might be salvageable. :)

mults 11-11-2013 06:28 PM

I check it constantly and the level is where it should be. I don't like that the battery is not a maintenance free one, so the next one will be.

kenchan 11-11-2013 08:44 PM

that's odd. my battery is still good. 09' 14k miles. i added water once.

Huan'z 11-12-2013 02:42 AM

370Z Battery Life Expectancy

I didn't know our battery needs water. I was thinking nowadays. All battery was maintenance free. 😔😔😔

Btw. I went online and go to advance auto parts and ordered a replacement battery. It was 125 (I believe or close to that number 😁) and there's a coupon code 40 dollars off (trt41) good till end of this month. If I bring the old battery they will refund 18 for a core charge then total around 100 OTD. I lived in Texas. They charged me 3 dollars for tx fees. Well I just want to offer. Some of u guys might need it. 😁😁😁 they got 3 years replacement warranty and 5 year prorated. I think it's not bad.

I will check my water level Tom. Hope not too late. Because I parked my car for months and let the battery completely dead. As in no more power. If I knew from the beginning I need to add water then my battery might be good till now. 😔

Oh! I also ordered a battery charger or battery maintainer on amazon (black and decker) for just 16 dollars. It's getting cold here in Houston, Texas. I don't plan to drive the z that's much or completely will park in garage for couple more months. So maybe good to have battery maintainer plug all the time to save future trouble on battery again. I know There's a warranty of 3 years replacement free on the battery. But well avoid to get dead car far away from home!! And want to keep new battery healthy. 😁😁😁
