I bought an extended Warranty through my bank who I financed the car with (Tropical Financial). I bought it for $1,625.00 which is for 7 years/100k mile transferable insurance with no deductable per claim. can't beat it.

I didn't purchase an extended warranty. I never have purchased an extended warranty for any of the cars/trucks I have ever bought. But, I might look into one for the Z before my 3/36 expires as it is my first convertible...

I'm not trying to promote Nissan's warranty here by any means but for $1,442.00 you could have got the Nissan Gold prefered warranty with only a $50 deductible. I'll bet this would cover more parts and give you better coverage and it's also tranferable so I really do think you could beat the price you got! This is Nissan's top tier warranty with unlimited Roadside assistance, trip interuption insurance and a car rental for up to 5 days. It also covers Belts and Hoses. I'm not a big fan of third party warranties but again all of this is just my opinion.

I just want to know if anyone residing outside the state California has experienced any issues with their extended warranties purchased through a mentioned California dealership? I do not want to repeat any negative hear say because I believe the rumor to be untrue. I am considering an extended warranty purchase through them. PM me if you have something to share. Thanks

Hi All, I am a Finance Manager at a Honda dealership and I am happy to answer any questions folks may have about vehicle service contracts (within reason, I don't want to come home from work and keep working LOL).

This will sound like a sales pitch because at the end of the day it's what I have to do all day. It's a bit long winded but I hope I can shed some light on things, and as a fellow Z owner I can give you the impartial answer to any questions if you feel a finance manager has been unscrupulous with you.

I will put my two bits in as well since we are talking about Nissans and not Hondas. I have purchased a vehicle service contract on every vehicle I have owned except two vehicles that I leased for 3 years/36,000 miles. (people call them extended warranties, but this is misleading as the only thing that can be called a warranty is the one from the factory. Not even factory "extended warranties" can be called warranties. What comes with the car for "free" (trust me you pay for this as part of a new car's price) is the warranty. Anything purchased with the vehicle is a service contract.

That being said, you will want to look for a first party VSC, not a 3rd party. This includes the manufacturers service contracts as well as a handful of other reputable service contract companies. (Zurich and Nationwide for example are both excellent and usually better than the manufacturer for lots of reasons which I can explain if anyone cares). These are considered 1st party not because they bear the name of the manufacturer, but because they underwrite their own policies. What this means to you is that they sell the service contract and they also pay out the claims. 3rd party refers to a service contract company that sells a service contract which is under written by a different insurance company. This can be bad for many reasons, one of which is they could go out of business and the under writing company is under no legal responsibility to pay out claims!

Contrary to what some people still believe, vehicle service contracts are extremely smart purchases and relatively speaking cheap insurance policies. What man makes man can break, and visit your local car dealership and it isn't hard to tell where the money is made, the service department. These cars are complex, have more parts than ever, have more computers, sensors, chips, motors, electronics, and gadgets and accessories than ever before. Take a second to look up the cost of many parts on these cars and you will be dismayed at just how much it costs to replace or fix them. Honda's labor rates in my area are $105 an hour, diagnostics $105 an hour, and then add the cost of parts to that.

Yes, you might never use your VSC. That is entirely possible. But studies show that of all insurance policies you can get, you are more likely to use a service contract than most other polcies, and it is less expensive as well than most insurance out there.

Ask yourself this. If AAA charges $90 per year for the Plus membership (100 miles of towing, 4 calls per year, etc.), multiply that out by 8 years if the AAA cost was to stay the same, and you have $720 dollars spent for just roadside assistance which comes for free and unlimited with good service contracts. Would you pay another $900 more to have almost every part and component fixed for $100 or $50 dollar deductibles for 8 years 100k or 120k miles?

I will answer yes every time. People spend fortunes on accessories and mods and all sorts of stuff. Yes you might never use your service contract. But I can guarantee if you don't have one and something breaks you will be one sad individual when the realty of what they are going to charge to fix your Z hits you.

I just purchased a used 2010 Titan and a new 370Z Roadster and they both have vehicle service contracts on them for 8 years. People can believe what they want, go ahead listen to those who tell you not to buy one. Will they pay to fix your car when something happens to it? Ultimately you should decide if that thought makes you uncomfortable, let them fix their own car if they wish but you have to decide what scenario you feel more comfortable about.

One last thing. For those who don't believe a "warranty" is a good idea I'll make you this offer. I will pay you the $43 bucks a month for 5 years that I am paying, and you sign something promising to fix any part that fails on my car under the "bumper to bumper" plan and come unlock my car when I lock my keys in it and change my tire and tow me at 2am. Sound like a fair trade? ;o)

I pulled the trigger today on buying an extended warranty. I thought about it for awhile and you just cannot beat the pricing from the California dealership. I doubt I will ever reach the mileage on the coverage I selected. I sure can openly appreciate the 10 percent down, 17 monthly interest free payments for some piece of mind. My wife had previously purchased extended warranties on her last two new cars. Both of those warranties paid for themselves during her ownership of those cars. One of the warranties paid for itself under one dealership visit repair.

Anyone looking to wait and decide after they get closer to the 3 yr, 36,000 mile warranty needs to consider a required preowned inspection after 12,000 miles or 12 months of age of the car. The Preened inspection is to be completed through a Nissan dealership and is either a 95 point or 159 point inspection. I am not sure which one is required. All cost and fees will need to be paid by the car owner to the dealership for those required inspection services before an extended warranty can be processed.

I am now waiting for the proper documentation that is being sent via UPS for signatures. Again, to each their own on whether to purchase an extended warranty but 76.10 down, 38 dollars a month interest free for 17 months is hard to not consider.

370Z gold preferred package of 60 Months and or 75,000 mile coverage for a total price of 761.00. Again, I can't complain on the extended warranty price tag.

I did buy the GOLD Preferred coverage of 7 year, 120,000 miles. I really didn't need that much of a coverage (6 year 100K should've been fine) but the fact this car comes with a very complex SYNCHROREV matching transmission, I decided to get the highest package. Also, lets NOT forget how fragile the synchro's are in the Z transmission (those coming from 350Z will know instantly what I mean). Also, It run my car pretty hard. I attend autox here and there. So, getting a good coverage will give me piece of mind. I am actually at 34,xxx miles and has absolutely NO ISSUES with the Z (knock on wood). The car treated me very well. But I like to have a peace of mind hence I bought the extended warranty.


I WAS torn between GOLD vs. GOLD Preferred. But a small $300 difference over a period of 7 years IS nothing! About $40/year extra which I think I can live with. I think it covers everything (incl. hoses and belts), I have much more option such as hotel/rental reimbursement etc if I'm out of state with the GOLD Preferred hence I went with it. Also, if you have NAV, you should DEF get it. It cover almost 100% of the audio/video stuff.

I just had it done last week on the Z. Basically you walk into the dealer with the Sheet provided in the UPS mail. Dealers are VERY familiar with it. You DO need the full 159 point because most of the exhaust/cat converter etc in the 2nd portion of the paper. Please don't quote me as I'm not 100% sure if you really need the the whole thing filled out but my dealer said it would be same price for top part or the whole thing. I said, "heck! do the whole sheet". It was cheap too ($69, price may vary dealer to dealer).

Basically, once everything is entered into the Nissan Database by the dealer you bought your warranty from, within 48 hours the Z should be covered under Warranty. Then, Nissan sends all the documents etc as they process it at a later date. Also, you can put 10% down and finance the rest FROM NISSAN (Budco Financial Services) for no interest for 17 months.

I just love having piece of mind. A car that has a VERY sensitive complex transmission and a VQ VVEL engine that likes to run HOT, why not get the extra warranty. Just my

So, are the amount of months listed what is covered after your factory warranty expires? ...so the 36 month version is for 36 months after the first three years are over,...meaning 6 total years of warranty? Or am I confused here...?

NO. The OEM warranty is 3 year 36,000 miles. So for $321, you're getting extra 9,000 miles. This is great for those who drives 15,000 miles/year (like me) instead of 12,000 miles/year. Hope this explains your question.
