No extension of any kind of warranty. I was literally in the F&I office for less than 15 minutes. The gentleman that I was working with just showed me a piece of paper with four "add on's" that I could purchase (extd. warranty, vin etching, wheel/tire warranty and a paint sealant contract,) but we did not discuss any of them. I have no idea of the different level of warranties that were options to pick in the poll.

Jerry Lundegaard never even pitched the paint sealant deal with me. Funny thing, he had nissan motor credit on the phone asking about a vehicle that was not in inventory. jk, Fargo joke. :p

Dad had a thread regarding these matters too. Hopefully, he'll chime-in here.

No way would I buy an extended warranty! It's just a rip off for the vast majority who buy it. If you don't have faith in the product/item your buying, don't buy it!

After my 3years/36k miles was up, stupid little things on my 03-350z started breaking. I didn't get the warranty on that car because I thought, I wouldn't need it.

This car has a lot more technology in it than my 350Z had, like the bluetooth functions, and Nav Screen that controls practically everythign in the car so I decided I better get it. My dealer wasn't selling the Security Plus they sold a version called PAS (Partners Administrative Services)

I spent about $2500-$3000 fixing little crap here and there that wouldn't bother most people but I am pretty picky about keeping everything working like new on my cars. This time around I got the Warrantyfor my 370Z. It's the platinum warranty and I paid $1600 for it. It covers everything that broke on my 350Z. It does have a $100 deductiable per visit so if it's tolerable I'll wait for a few things to break to make sure it's worth my time/money to get fixed.

Things that crapped out on my 350Z:
1. Window motors both Driver/Passenger
2. Hatchback Struts
3. HVAC Amplifier Control (Expensive little f'er)
4. Rear Defroster
5. The sensor in the fuel line that tells you when you are full/empty would never read just right
6. Stereo stopped playing CDs (got aftermarket anyways but still I don't plan on going that route with the 370Z)

But there is no need to buy it at time of purchase, you can buy it at anytime before the original warranty expires.

When I was told that I was approved to buy my 370z (with 20k down cash) the F&I guy tells me what my monthly payment was after he was "nice" enough to add in the extended warranty without even asking me if I wanted it. After I let him go on and on about what the extended warranty covers I flat out told him that I did not want it and that the 3yr/36k was good enough. He was a little surpised and went back and removed the warranty from the monthly payment

I can see how some people get bullied into accepting these things without knowing how much they are. Thanks to this site, I knew that the extended plans were just ways to increase the dealers profit and probably would of went along with it if I didn't know better.

Hi everyone... am i mistaken by thinking that the standard warranty that came with the car has a lot more limitations and parts that are not covered in comparison to the gold preferred one? am i the only one that was specifically told that the standard warranty will not cover harsh driving conditions so if you drive it hard you void warrant, while the GP does not care for that? Lastly, going back to the original thread.... how much were you guys quoted at before just saying no? i was quoted $1500 for 100k and 72 months... please let me know

No one can say definitively that the extended warranty is worth it or not. The insurance company that offers it sets a rate based on probabilities based on a lot of things including past experiences with the manufacturer and preceeding model. They also earn interest on the float (you pay upfront, they hold and invest the money until or if it pays out a claim). What you pay for is peace of mind, a known $ figure upfront for repairs, and spreading out the premium over months if you financed. That is worth different things to different people. The key is to minimize the commission paid to the dealer, so just negotiate it as you have done with the car. It may also help to resell your car, especially since the Z is such a high volume production car. I personally would be more inclined to buy extended warranties when the car is in its first model year.

i paid 2500 for it. after thinking about it i decide to cancel. if u cancel within a month of owning the car then u get 100% of it back. which i did cancel and got the 2500 back.

I bought it for 1,700 with my car for the best package, called nissan and cancelled after seeing these prices from another nissan dealer....

you can buy it the day before your factory warranty expires and it doesn't have to be issued at your local nissan dealer!

No way no how. When I sat down with the finance guy I told him I didnt want anything extra at all. When he asked why I told him they were all bs and a waste of money. "Paint sealant" is an even bigger bunch of bs and it pisses me off more to hear that tripe because Im pretty heavy into detailing. Now if a bunch of stuff starts breaking before 36K I might pony up and get it, but if not, and I dont see that it will...

He's right, you know about 50% of the cost of an extended warranty goes to the dealer. I wouldn't mind getting one, if they seriously came down on the price. You just need to know what other people have paid, and what it's actually costing them.

It's just like how you don't walk into a dealer not knowing the invoice price of the car, and how much it cost the dealer to buy. If you know that, and you want that car/warranty, you can bring them down on the cost.

Honestly, I'll be interested in it when I get my Z, for the sole fact that it's got a lot of technology in it, GPS/Bluetooth. I'm in I.T., so I can predict that these things will have issues after 36K, and that Nav system could easily set you back 3K if it completely fails on you.

I don't bank on having any mechanical issues with a new car.. they build those things too well. It's the electronics. I have several family members with cars having over 200K miles, and still no major breakdowns. The rest of the car usually goes well before the engine gives up.

We have one car in our parking lot that the rear axel became detached from the rest of the vehicle. The engine still works great, it's the body that's falling apart.

I was quoted $4500 for the Gold Preferred. He pushed it pretty hard, reluctanly told me I didn't have to decide there on the spot. Told me I had 90 days from the date of purchase to buy the extended warranty.
