Default rear trunk open warning message

Hi, I am having a problem with a rear trunk open warning message? It usually only happens on the freeway at freeway speeds mostly when the car is jarred by bumps and rough roads. When the message comes on the door locks click open and closed. This can happen 60 to 70 times per drive on my 30 mile commute to and from work. Seems to be getting worse. It all seemed to start about the time I was installing my new clutch pedal and I had the truck hatch open. Apparently I had accidentally closed the hatch on the car cover and when I opened the hatch I noticed it stuck in the locking mechanism. Anyone know if there is room for adjustment in the mechanism and if it might be out of alignment. Or does anyone know if this is where the sensor for this unit is? Would I be looking at replacing the locking mechanism or the trunk actuator motor or a separate sensor somewhere else? I took it to the dealership and they said the locking mechanism looked in good shape. Then they took the car for a 26 mile test drive through a construction zone and brought it back scratched and said they couldn't reproduce the problem. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jeff

There are some adjustments on the hatch "snubbers" that adjust to take the slack out of the mechanism. Try unscrewing them a turn and see what happens. May be too much movement in the truck lid.

Let us know what you find. I tried looking in my FSM (factory service manual) and can't seem to find an exploded view of the trunk mechanism...

I found the answer to this problem and it may be of use to some other owners of the RJM clutch pedal modification. The symptom I was experiencing with the dash message of the rear hatch open warning and the door switches opening and closing reacting to the alert code were all caused by a loose connection to the upper sensor pin switch not having solid contact with the clutch arm. The original assumption was that this switch only cancels the cruise control may be an over simplification of it's complexity. I think this switch is tied into many other sensors dealing with speed and acceleration. But after having replaced the rear hatch latch with no results, I returned to the other most likely suspect of my recent pedal install. I readjusted the clutch slave arm eliminating any excess play and firmly tightened down the set screw on the arm setting the top sensor pin tightly on the clutch pedal arm. This stopped the problem immediately. So if anyone experiences a similar problem after installing the clutch pedal please make sure you have good solid contact with the top sensor eliminating any intermittent contact caused by rough roads or uneven pavement.
