Default Soft Top Protection

Before I get flamed this is not a post about how to protect the soft top or how to clean it.

I realize from doing some searching that Raggtopp seems to be the way to go but was wondering if anyone ever thought or tried using fabric paint.

I have used Duplicolor's VINYL & FABRIC PAINT on interiors in the past but never on a convertible top/exterior. My feeling is that paint will last longer over the annual Raggtopp process. Any thoughts?

I already contacted Duplicolor to see if this would be a safe application and if it will hold up on the exterior so I'll keep everyone posted.

So I got a reply from Duplicolor and they said their paint will work on our soft tops. Anyone here have the balls to try it? lol

Not a chance I will stick with my 303 every couple years.

Is 303 better than Raggtopp or just a matter of preference? Do you use the one for vinyl or fabric? (I'm guessing fabric)

303 Fabric is all I have ever used on my tops over the years (multiple cars). It's a little bit of a pain to put on as you need to protect the paint areas on the car when you spray it. I put the top down, throw a sheet over the top opening and then close the top so the sheet is covering the sides and front of the car.

I can tell you after applying, two plus years later and water still beads up on the top like fresh waxed paint. It also has very good UV protection to keep the top from fading.

I like the sound of that lol. I tried Autozone over the weekend to get Raggtopp but they didnt have it. I'm going to try an different one today and see fi they have Raggtopp or 303 but it's nice to know I have options.

For the masking off part I'll probably spend $5 at a local 99 cent store to get table cloths and some masking tape and cover all my paint and rubber molding to be safe. Love my car too much to take a chance lol

Thanks for the info

Use Meguires Ultimate Quick detailer spray on and remove with cotton cloth or micro cloth works great, top just like new.

I've been using Raggtop with good results, easy application, just wipe off paint if you over spray...got mine online, quick delivery - no problem.

I use 303 and am very impressed with the results. I've never used anything else, so that isn't a statement against Raggtop.

So far I've gotten the 303 kit, which has cleaner and protectant. Over the course of a summer I use up the protectant, but still have cleaner. Next time I'm just going to order the protectant.

I get mine from a local shop that does Line-X. They do a lot of other vehicle related stuff - mostly truck related. Call around to your local vehicle accessory shops and ask, whether you go with 303 or Raggtop, you'll probably be able to find a mom & pop shop that'll be happy to get it for you.
