Sub Woofer in a roadster?

Has anyone figured out how to put a sub in a roadster without loosing any seat room? I did a search and didn't find anything but coupe apps. Thanks

I did.. id post pics but im at work.

I made a box for the trunk. i didnt have a spare so i wasnt gonna be sacrificing space. I made a box that fit where the spare would go.. took out all the foam except for the far right and far left piece, and built so that when the carpet was layed back over, it was still 100% flush. only thing was i wasnt gonna spend money of a good shallow mount sub when i already has a jl w3v3. so i had to make an inch and a half spacer ring that the sub sits on. i cut a hole perfect in the carpet and it almost looks stock. almost. only thing is that there isnt near enough airspace to take full advantage of the sub, but i dont listen to it like i used to.. and just needed that extra thump.. not trying to set off car alarms anymore. i couldnt find anywhere for my amp, so i just mounted it to the right of the sub on top of the carpet.

in the end, it all looks very clean and still as practical as the z vert can be. and i was able to keep all the stock fix-a-flat crap next to the box.

if youre interested, i can post pics later. let me know. hope this helped.

here's what i did. i honestly just kinda came up with it as i went. just had an idea in my head but nothing on paper or anything. i didnt even know if the sub was gonna fit. hence the last minute riser/spacer idea that i had to make. sorry it took me a few days.

I put my amp in the space where the top goes down. That is where the stock bose amp sits anyways.

Holy crap, that's genius. I can't believe I didn't think of that. Looks like I have some changes to make this weekend. Thanks for that! Between all of us, the roadster can have a very clean and practical install that still sounds good.

Tons of room in there. I think subs could go in there honestly!

Has anyone tried a bazooka in the spare tire hole? Seems like a simple solution to the base problem.

Ive seen other threads on the bazooka install. I personally don't like their products. And the tube is awkward, But I'm sure that it would be easier than my install. It would be pretty straight forward as far as just notching a space out of the foam.

My car has the Bose system. I was very disappointed in the sound quality so I made a few alterations. All of the research I did left the Bose system portrayed as some mystical piece of engineering that could not be altered because Bose is so secretive about their system. The crappy paper cone speakers were terrible. I tested them all with a meter and found nothing particularly unusual so I replaced the dash speakers with MB Quart QTK-30 tweeters and the door speakers with MB ONX169's. I didn't mess with the rear speakers because they are all but useless behind the seats and under the boot. The high and mid range sound great now and I am satisfied with the sound but there is still virtually no base. I am contemplating doing a sub install similar to yours but was curious if a tube would be an easy fix to the problem. I have very eclectic musical taste but I'd don't do much that requires an overpowering or driving base. I am just looking for something that would complement the other speakers I installed. What do you think?

I completely understand what you mean. I used to have a c5 that had the Bose and it was horrible. After research I found that the only thing that made it bose was 2 out of the 8 speakers in the car.. 2 6" woofers in the door were actually bose brand. All the rest were gm. So my way of getting out of buying the 129$ Bose adapter harness to go aftermarket deck and subs was to simply unhook them. Worked perfect. Remember that if you need to in the future.

Um.. I know what you mean about not needing or wanting crazy loud bass. I will say that this cars trunkspace, or lack there of kind of prevents full advantage of a woofer. My jl is amazing.. But in order to get it into the car trunk without losing space, the box I made had to be so small compared to what the subs requirements are, that it's turned down so low that it's perfect. Nice addition with bass you can easily feel, but nothing more.

Do a search of the guy who put the bazooka in his coupe. Lots of good info on those bass tubes in there. And lots of info on how it sounds. If I remember right, they guy that installed it was wanting the same things you were.

Hope this helps. This car certainly has been more interesting but fun figuring out the normally easy stereo thing. Lol

Thanks for the info, I will keep you posted on the results. I have to go to FL for some classes for the next couple of weeks so it will be a while. I am trying to get certified and licensed for a residential builders license there and the requirements are unbelievable because of all the hurricane codes and controls put in place by the state to keep the scam artist from fleecing all the old people. The process takes several months and about $5k investment!
