Default Heated and cooled seats

Hi all.

New here, so here we go,

I have a problem with the drivers heated and cooled seat. When I turn the switch on to either heat or cooling the little orange light comes on for 5 seconds, you just hear the fans are starting up then it switches its self off. To reset and it again. I turn off the ignition, wait for 10 seconds, turn the ignition on again but it does the same thing very time. The passenger side works as it should. Any here had the same problem? I was thinking it might be a thermo switch in the base of the seat?

Looking at the Service Manual SE section, page SE-45: there is a "Fail Safe" mode. If the system detects for 4 seconds that the thermal electric device sensor is an open circuit, it stops all output and enters the system off mode.

It also mentions a 30 C differential between cushion and back, and temperatures higher than 110 C, but that doesn't seem all that likely in only four or five seconds.

Does either the back or cushion begin to warm up before it stops? Since both have a "TED" (SE-77) I'd start by looking at the one that doesn't begin to warm.

Hi Steve.

Just been looking at what you said. Your correct. Its 4 seconds from start to switch off. Nothing get warm on the drivers seat. It doesn't have long enough to get any heat there. You can here the fans start up on low and just before they go onto the next stage, it shuts down.
Would a diagnostic reader find the fault?

I was given this parts number for a the thermo switch in the base: 873D7

I doubt that the set heaters will throw a DTC but I don't know that for sure. The FSM usually lists any applicable DTCs.

For troubleshooting purposes, you may be able to bypass the TED to see if things start working. Do not leave TED bypassed as this is a fire hazard.

Thanks.

In the UK the roadster wasn't a good seller for Nissan. I think just over 300 odd sold in total. That makes second hand spares like rocking horse poo. So, if it is this switch, I can only buy new from Nissan at a cost of £210.00.
Do you think it might be cheaper as a second hand part in the US? Its not a big item, so postage won't be much.

There are several Nissan parts dealers online. Courtesy Parts comes to mind.

If you can find the specs for the TED (temperature setpoint and current rating), you may be able to find a "generic" replacement.

Good idea. Didn't think of that.

I doubt if Nissan will give me that sort of information and I'm not sure if the switch itself will show it.

I sent Courtesy Parts an email to see if they can help.

Would any one know of any breakers that may have a 370z roadster in or stock of removed parts?
