Default Ordering online out of state

Has anyone done this and care to share their experience?

I live in Vermont and the dealers around here are always way over charging for Z's. ( I used to have a 350 and am now looking at getting a 370 ).

I'm at the point where I'm pretty much fed up with the Nissan dealers around here so I've been doing a lot of looking online at what other dealerships are posting on sites like cars.com and autotrader.com and have been finding what are really good deals .. at least compared to around here.

So that leads me back to my main question. How did the process play out for you? I would be trading in a car as well. Did you have to drive way out of state and handle things with them there or where you able to mostly take care of things online and over the phone? Do they do anything like maybe shipping your Nissan to a local Nissan dealer for you to pick up instead of having to drive down?

I ended up purchasing my Z brand new from the Nissan dealership nearly 100 miles from my home while I was in Afghanistan. I never had a problem with the guy and he went 500 miles out of his way to get the exact car I wanted. I was very impressed.

That's really awesome. Thanks for your service too btw, my father was in Iraq.

So they were able to square away everything for you while you were over sea's, did they just fax you the paperwork? Also did you have a trade?

I bought the car outright, but he was able to email me most of the paperwork and I emailed him my papers so everything was ready when I got home to pick the car up.

Bought my 2011 Z pre-owned and my daughter's 2014 Rogue new from Nissan dealer about 150 miles from Nashville (home) in Paducah, KY. Had a trade on the Z, paid outright for the Rogue. Drove both home the day of sale (each transaction took just over an hour!), and they handled all the paperwork, taxes and licensing fees for Tennessee.

The main reason besides great people and service was a very small "doc fee" compared to dealers here in Nashville. Well worth the drive

Bought mine 900 miles from home at Fusz Nissan and drove it back. Saw their inventory online, emailed them and then handled the rest by phone/fax. The price was right, but that's the only good thing I can say about them. I wouldn't suggest anyone do business with that bunch of scumbags, but ordering online can be done without issue. I don't know how the trade works as I just flew up and drove back.

On the upside, most of the break in was done by the time I got home the next morning.

I just traded my 2011 for a 2014 over the phone without even setting foot in the dealer 90 miles away. It was the most amazing car-buying experience I've had.

I solicited from Nissan's website "Request a quote" function. Three out of four dealers responded within hours. Ironically, the one that blew me off is my own local dealer, 20 miles away. Long story short, within three days I had pricing on various vehicles. The best price I got was from a dealer 90 miles from here, from whom I also happened to buy my wife's Murano 2 years ago. They gave me a trade-in price on my old Z, found the Z that I wanted at a dealer 500 miles away, and a purchase price on that new Z. I gave him money down via credit card. They brought the new Z to my house on a flat bed car-hauler and took my old Z away. We did the paperwork at my kitchen table.

They trusted me on my description of the old Z, and I didn't let them down. I did spend some time on the phone and via email with the salesman, with whom I dealt before on the Murano, and with the finance guy to make sure the paperwork was OK. The home delivery part of it came from the fact that they wanted to conclude the deal by March 1, and me driving down there was made impossible by a surprise snowstorm making that impossible. Anyway, worked out well for both of us. I was very pleased with the pricing and tickled to death with the customer service. I did write them a $200 check for the car-hauler delivery to my garage, but they actually sent that back to me saying it was unnecessary.

My car came from a dealer in Oklahoma. The dealer told me they were going to eat the transport fee and send someone to drive it down. I said fvck that, charge me the fee and ship it. I can just imagine the dealer employee they send setting cruise control for most of the ~400 mile trip

I did that on my last Z. They sent someone to drive it back from Milwaukee, about 400 miles. No problem. That mileage didn't count against the warranty. My most recent Z came from Illinois, about 500 miles, on a flatbed.

I wasn't worried about the warranty mileage. I was worried about the driver setting cruise control for 1/3 of the break-in period.

I bought my 370 new out-of-state about six weeks ago. None of my local dealers could/would get me what I wanted for less than MSRP. Shopping online and buying via e-mail and a few phone calls was fairly painless. Nissan's website makes it very easy to find most dealers' exact inventory online, and the dealers that I contacted were quite responsive to my requests for information.

I did not have a trade-in as my teenager was "inheriting" my old car, and he was more than willing to go on a 500-mile road trip to pick up a new car and drive my old one back home!

FYI, I paid no sales tax in the state of purchase, but I had to pay it (actually a "user fee") in my state when I got my tag.

No regrets at all. Not even for a second when the salesperson at a local dealer that I had been working with e-mailed me 2-3 weeks after my purchase telling me that they had received exactly what I had wanted in a new shipment. I don't know if they would have been more giving on the price for that vehicle or not. If they don't even know what they have coming in the next month, that is the dealership's problem if they miss some sales.

Yeah, that's not something I had any worries about whatsoever.

Thanks for all the great replies everyone. You've really helped shed some light on what to expect when I'm ready to pull the trigger. I think I'll give the Nissan site a try as well.

My old 350 I miss like crazy. I will probably get another Red one, or maybe white but really want a 370 mainly because the interior is so much nicer.
