I don't get how people's rates are so low?
NY, 35yo married male (but wife is unlicensed) 2 car discount but other car is only insured for liability, also multi-policy (Home) discount, driver safety test discount Nationwide: $1100 6 months. $500 deductible only points on record currently is 2 point failure to obey traffic device from 2009.

We pay $1180 every 6 months for 3 cars with full coverage , $0 glass, and $250 deductable and extended bumper to bumper waranties on 2 of the cars. O tickets or accidents, prefered plan, 2 drivers. Our plans cover us for about 4 times the limits of standard policies, We live in big city with a lot of bad drivers. When I used to live in a small country area of NYS, my total payments were only about 1/2 of what I pay now.
Most rates are based on where you live and your driving record and age. Best rates for auto seem to be Allstate, Geico for cars and Progressive for motorcycles. Never cared for the prices the other big companies give, they never even came close to the companies listed above. Last edited by gsxr750; 02-10-2012 at 02:46 AM. |

Best service and price allstate, most companies will drop you like a rock if you get a couple claims with in a few years though. Geico best for price. Some companies can be hard to collect from on theft claims though or large personal or physical damage though. My brother had a boat motor stolen off a boat , while at a resturant for breakfast and they denyed the claim. Only resort then is to have a lawyer sue your own insurance company to collect, when they deny a claim.
With most insurance companies their policy is not to pay claims, its really to deny them or get out of paying them when ever a claim is submited. Last edited by gsxr750; 02-10-2012 at 10:04 AM. |

Everything is a factor with insurance, age, car, location, average age of owners (who own the same car), accidents per 100 cars, etc. Your best bet is to stop at a few local big name companies, Allstate, Nationwide, State Farm, etc and get some price comparisons. Then shop at a few local insurance companies, they can usually be a bit cheaper but might lack certain options/features of the bigger companies.

The OP should narrow his focus on this question. Since this is a world-wide forum, answers will be as varied as the colors of the rainbow.
Try moving the question to the OP's specific region. Then age, history, etc. can more closely be matched to an "estimate" of what the OP can "expect" to pay.
