I think what the salesperson did was add tax to their asking price to show me what I'm paying total for the car after registering, not what I owe him

I think what the salesperson did was add tax to their asking price to show me what I'm paying total for the car after registering, not what I owe him at the time of purchase. Im still confused on this dealer fee though.
EDIT: After researching some more, if the car is financed in any way, the dealer has to collect taxes and then remit them to the State of LA for me. On my receipt it'll be noted that I paid dealer taxes and then I won't have to pay them again when I register. Now all I need to do is chip away at the dealer fee and I should be set.
