Default '11 PW Touring w/ Sport - Deal or not?

I'm looking at the following car and I'm not sure if it's a deal or not. It seems like the price is just what it should be, not good, not bad. What do you think?

2011 Touring
Pearl White
Persimmon Interior
8400 miles
Sport package
Navigation
Manual transmission
Rear Camera
NISMO brake package (pads I assume)

Dealer is asking $33,900.

It is not already a Nissan Certified Used car (but they will of course allow me to buy that.....no thanks)

According to the salesman, it's priced for internet sale so he can't move on price except "maybe a few hundred dollars". He IS the internet sales guy, so that claim may be true.

Yeah the price seems about right, my 2011 was listed at 33,500 and I was able to get them to bring it down to 33 flat. With dealer taxes and fees, I drove off the lot at 36K. (that includes dealer fees, destination, license plates, etc) SO considering mine is a base model, and the one you are looking at is a sports + touring I think you have a reasonable deal on your hands.

However, I bought mine new, with 41 miles on it, it looks like the one you are looking at has about 8K miles on it already, and it is a last year model, (almost forget we are in 2012 sometimes lol) so for that reason I would say you should be able to negotiate some more.

Last year's model, over 8000 miles, tell him to take off another $500 and you'll buy it.

In St. Louis, I see.

FWIW, I bought a brand new 2011 Touring/MT (No Sport) in Gunmetal Grey from West Count Nissan for $30,855 + Tax a week ago. That was their 'no haggle' internet price.

Good luck.

Yeah, it was at Autobarn. I'm not local and didn't get a great vibe either. Took them 3 or 4 days to decide who was going to call me and tell me my loan situation after I emailed them and called once or twice each. (approved at the low Nissan rate).

I'm pretty spontaneous about buying and was planning to fly up on what would have been the 5th day to buy it. By then I had made other plans and my fiance convinced me to just wait for a GT-R.

Probably would have made plans to buy it if I had been contacted on day 1 or 2.

I'm curious what your experience was.

according to Kelly Blue book the car retails for $37,419 in perfect shape and trade in is about $32,900.

Subtract these two values and you get $4219 as the price range or spread.

Now subtract the $32,900 trade in value - minus $4219 = $28,681 actual dealer wholesale cost

So if this dealer took this car in on trade or lease he only has $28,681 into it.

A reasonable offer on this car would be $29,100 - $29,600 maximum that way the dealer is making a $1000 max on the deal, anymore and you are over paying.

Another important issue either buying 1 yr. old new left over or a low mileage 1 yr. old car is that once you drive it off the lot you would loose between $6000 - $10,000 the very next day if you had to sell the car for some reason on a new 1 yr. old left over.

Here's an example when you compare what effect 1 year difference in car's age can have in its retail value. For comparison take a 2010 base corvette and and identical base 2009 corvette, both cars with the same mileage. The 2010 vette was worth around $38K and the 2009 was worth only $31K , so you can see how 1 yr. in a cars age can drastically affect its value.

When you buy a left over model yr of a car most dealers expect the buyer to absorb these price losses , when it should really be the dealers and the manufactures loss, not the buyer. So unless the dealer will discount the used model $3k -$5K lower than the new model, then don't buy it.

Often you will find that a dealer can sell you a new model cheaper than a left over or a 1 yr. old trade in, due to the fact that if the dealer can sell you a car that has been on the lot only a few days or weeks or just came in, then they do not have that much money or financing tied up in it.
