Default New Car Insurance Discount

My insurance provider provides a discount if your car is considered 'new'. The definition of 'new', by their rules, is defined by:

1. Model year 2004 or later; promotion started in 2004
2. Not previously titled or licensed; purchased new from dealership
3. Model year (MY) of car is not less than year in which the car was purchased

This means you can purchase a 2008MY car in 2007 or 2008 and still receive the new car discount. I purchased my 2009MY 370Z in 2010, and thus my insurance company is refusing to give me the new car discount based on rule #3. I'm asking for an exception however since Nissan released the 2009MY cars in 2009, and not 2008, which is the assumption that rule #3 is based upon.

Has anyone else encountered this situation, and what have you done about it? This amounts to <$100 per year, and yes I know I'm being a stickler about it.

True that. The agent called me back saying they couldn't make an exception since their software was programmed to assume model year cars came out in the previous calendar year. I said I didn't understand why they would agree with me, but blame my being overcharged on software. After I asked if my bill would be pro-rated should I change insurance companies they offered to "escalate" the issue again. Boo.

Just change insurance companies if you can. Progressive wouldn't match the quote from geico so I switched and progressive mailed me a check.

Even Geico granted me the discount on my 2008 Evo when I bought it in 2009. It was obviously brand new, and they didn't seem to have any issue with granting me the new car discount; I didn't even have to ask.

I dunno, but your insurance company needs to step their game up. Situations like this are customer service 101.

Switch switch switch! Check with The Hartford! Great customer service and very fair in dealings. I have my home, umbrella and auto insurance, everything with the same company.
