SANTA MONICA, California — Nissan has yet to officially unveil the all-new 2009 Nissan 370Z coupe, and Inside Line is already providing details on the 2010 Nissan 370Z convertible.

Unlike the Infiniti G37 drop top, which uses a retractable hardtop, the future 370Z convertible will incorporate a power-operated soft top. The fabric top will likely keep the new Z convertible from getting an exorbitant bump in price, and more importantly, will prevent the newly smaller Z from taking on any unnecessary pounds. The new sixth-generation Z cut its wheelbase by approximately 4 inches, so it's necessary for the convertible to keep its weight down.

The 370Z convertible is expected to share a powertrain with the 370Z coupe, likely to be the same 3.7-liter Nissan VQ engine that's already providing power to the G37 coupe and sedan. A seven-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission will be offered, same as in the G. Although the G37 added an all-wheel-drive option this year in the form of the G37x, the 370Z will continue to use rear-wheel drive only.

The 2010 Nissan 370Z convertible will debut early next spring at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

These pictures are photoshopped BUT it shouldn't be too far off. I have always loved 350Z convertibles and 370Z shouldn't be any different. I am actually glad Nissan going with the softtop to save weight because driving light weight car is always a blast.

i currently have the 350z roadster and have only owned convertibles in my 3 car history, but im not sure how i feel about this one... with the top up on the 350 it looks funny, but with the weird lines on the 370, top up may look even worse... anyone agree??

and i now realize after looking at the pics, that the aggressive door cut is gone from the ZR and its left with a straight edge cut... not sure if it will be like that on the final model, but if so i may end up with a coupe!

with the top up, it's gonna look really ugly...for sure

and the real version is gonna have an ugly hump on the trunk.....LOL

Coupes is the way to go...no doubt, just look at the G37 Coupe and the G37 Convertible

I've never been a fan of convertibles/roadsters but this one looks pretty good. Hopefully it doesn't look hideous with the soft top up, as most cars tend to do.

In general I'll always take a coupe version over an open top version in any car.

Well, It looks nice with the roof down, perfect to be driving by Ocean Drive, Washington Ave. and/or Alton Rd. in Miami Beach, but I still going to prefer the coupe design.
