Default Performance Motorsport: Weekend at Autobahn-Journal

The weekend of September 17th & 18th was the Global Time Attack event at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet (Chicago)

To kick everything off, our engine seized in our 370Z just before loading it into the trailer. So we made a last minute decision to pull the engine out of Alex's NISMO and drop it into the white race car.

Putting Alex's engine into the race car

Our Bus and Rig making the trip into the West

We started the trip at 4:30am Friday morning and arrived at the track at about 8:30pm. Positioned the rig and bus, and attempted to get some sleep before waking up bright and early and finish setting everything up and finish getting the cars ready.

After everything was set up and the cars were ready, we went out for a few runs to get familiar with the track.

Some other cars that were out running on the track

After getting some laps in, our rig suffered from a strong gust of wind, lifting our trailer's awning up into the air and then slamming it down onto our race cars. The 370Z only got dinged on the hood, but the Z06 took a lot of the damage. Shattered rear window, pole through the rear bumper/tail light, and another one across the brand new hood.

A lot of people came to help us in taking apart the awning braces, while a lot of other people took pictures of the damage. But the kick in the balls came when someone took this time to steal my video camera and new tripod which was only a few feet from us through out all of this. It was even recording during the time someone walked off with it. Never found it, and never caught the jerk who took it You can actually see the video camera in the background through smashed rear window shot. Last it was seen

The cars were still driveable

With the rear hatch all taped up and all the glass removed, it was ready to see some more action.

Meanwhile back at the trailer, Andrew was working out some minor issues with the 370Z

After getting everything back on track, we went out for a few more sessions before the day was over

After a while the sun eventually began to set and we started to lose some light

Chris Rado debuted his new F-Wing Tc

Coming back to his rig after a few quick laps

As the sun set, a lot of teams were still working on their cars, us included

Our set up with the sun setting over the track in the background

Rado's team worked well into the evening in the Tc

Sunday morning rolled around, and what a wet day it was. The Z06, still windowless, stayed the night under a car cover, and the Z stayed under one of our tents with it anchored to the car.

Our event was called to an early end since none of the GTA participants ran in the rain, but the NASA guys and club members ran in the wet

We decided to pack it up early and make the trip back to NY, making a detour to Indianapolis to drop off one of our team members for something else. Driving through Indiana there were miles of giant windmills

Making our way closer to home, yet still far away, we were able to take in some nice sights along the drive.

The higher we got in the mountains, the foggier it became

We made a stop in the mountains to fill up on gas and get some coffee.
While getting gas, we decided to throw the rig on the scale and see what she weighed in at. I think it was around 59,xxx lbs

FINALLY after spending nearly a full day on the road, we see home... Driving over the George Washington Bridge
