Sorry for the delayed reply, but I was the original poster to ask the question. I DO indeed have an update. The car has been sold. Reason is, Nissan refused to take any responsibility for the car. I was told by Nissan Consumer Affairs that since my car had no service history with the dealer (we bought the car used from another county) they had no interest in helping me.
The odd thing about this is, when I originally spoke to NCA, they knew well the problem. In fact, they alluded that based on past experience with other owners with the same problem had had the entire engine replaced at Nissan's expense. As mentioned in prior posts, they suspected the camshaft timing sprockets. for $2200, they would replace the sprockets but not guarantee that would fix the problem. From what I understand, the ultimate problem is with the oil sump pick-up being too short on the early '09 370's. this in turn causes the engine to run hot and the cam sprockets to warp or come out of alignment. The oil sump pick up had been lengthened in later models of the '09 I was really bummed with the way the whole thing turned out. This was my second Z, but I doubt if I will ever buy another, or even another Nissan for that matter.. I hope this helps, but unless you have a complete service history from a dealer I suspect you will get the same treatment from NCA. Best of luck.. |

I also wanted to let you know that the limp mode was also happening on my car. This is after replacing BOTH camshaft timing sensors AND the camshaft timing solenoid.
Apparently after the engine ran hot due to the short oil pick-up, the damage had been done. After the parts had been swapped, the car ran great until you hit the magic RPM and boom limp mode. And... I ultimately sold the car to Nissan. Not really a buy-back, just got rid of the car for the balance of the amount financed. Not a "warm and fuzzy" at all. It took me 5 months of dancing with NCA to get to that point. Still making the payments in hope that it would all turn out well. No such luck. In fact, the direct quote from NCA was "We're not going to fix the car, your problem" I now have a Hyundai Veloster. Not fast but still fun nonetheless. I have also recently purchased 2 more Hyundai's for my kids. Just sayin' |

I just re-read my original post and wanted to share an update about Nima at Corner3. He was great. He actually helped me with a bit of advice about dealing with Nissan and what part of the problem was. My bigger issue was that the local Nissan dealer and the much less than friendly or helpful woman who is the service manager (names omitted for obvious reasons) didn't want to deal with me partly because apparently Corner3 has a reputation of being able to fix things better and more timely than they could. Seems quite a bit of professional jealousy was being shown by the dealer.
I do want to say a belated thanks to Nima and the crew at Corner3 because they really were the only bright spot in the whole mess that the P0011 became. |
