Default 12 month service

Bought my beast Sep 2009, and it has been great. But so far done only 4000 miles (as you can see I am in Michigan). Done my 1st "service" (oil change) at 3000. Now should I wait till hit 6000 for my next "service" or do I do it now as it is now 12 months since the purchase? What do you guys do? I am worried about doing these things myself...

I had the first oil change at the Nissan dealer at 2400 mi. The tech said not to change it again till 7500 mi. This may not happen till end of next yr at the rate I drive the thing.

I would not recommend going more than 6 months or so between oil changes. Even if you don't put many miles on its a good idea to keep fresh oil in it. Over time the oil mixes other chemicals and impurities and its good to get them out.

Never let oil just sit. I only drive about 120 miles a month onto mine. I still have full synthetic put in every three months. If you want to push it I would not go over six months. Even if you dont drive her, start her once or twice a week, and let her idle as well.

my car was at 3000miles in one year and did my oil change using mobil1 silver cap. my change is either once a year or 5000miles.

i advise against starting the car and letting it idle unless you're going to drive it for more than 10miles...reason being your engine oil will not get hot enough to disspate moisture in the oil, and your exhaust will have vapors and water droplets that can end up corroding the inside of the exhaust system.

for low milage per year cars like mine, i use a battery manager and keep the battery at float. if you're using synthetic you can easily go more than 3months without cranking and still have enough lube to be safe. i know cause my hibernation is usually 3-3.5months and never had an issue with my engine. search hibernation if you want more tips on wat else is recommended.

GL!

Just for clarification I do not just start it let it run 10 minutes and turn it off. Also I drive enough each week to prevent buildup. I guess each scenario is different and you should read up on what kenchan posted above. Each person’s situation is different. I just personally do not like oil to sit for that amount of time.
