I think, big assumption here, the 'amazing German' engineering does its special work on the turbo engines. Probably why they switched out the v8 in favor of snails

Their turbo engines have more issues than the V8's though... irony! lol

I had baaad experience modding a 135i Turbo ed engine, heard bearing clearance problems on v8's. Stock they can hold, but modding will make it fall apart.

135i are actually one of the worst care that BMW did, so that's not surprising to hear. With the turbo engines, you are always going to have more that can go wrong. Bearing clearance was an issue, thats true.

bmw has great engineering, never driven a 6mt m series before but the other manual transmission cars i've driven the bmw 6mt is much better than the z's. Also keep in mind the gas will be more expensive on the m3 than the Z, maybe insurance as well, and like ppl have mentioned maintenance is pretty expensive on a bmw even if nothing brakes down, i would go with the z since i love the fact that it is not as common as a bmw and it has good performance

I'd go with the m3... my friends owns one and it's way more fun to drive then my Z. someone mentioned gas, and we get about the same gas mileage.. he usually get 18mpg and i get about 20mpg with my Z. As far as maintenance, it isn't cheap. few months back he had a oil change and had to get break oil changed or something and it was almost $800, but keep in mind that he usually changes his oil once a year. Where as with me in the Z i change it every 2-3 months so in the end it's comes out to be the same thing. Also, he beats on his car every time he drives it and the car has yet to show any sign of breaking down. If i had the money i'd definitely go with the M3.

This is a tough one. I've always been a big fan of the M3's. I LOVE the look and sound of the car. I have heard many people say BMW like to fall apart when they get upwards of 50k miles. The maintenance/repairs will obviously be expensive..but as far as that goes I would say the repairs on the Z's aren't all that cheap either
. My biggest issue here is you're deciding between a decently used car vs a brand new one. That M3 is gorgeous but I think I would have to go with the new Z. It's brand new=no one has driven it, zero miles, FULL warranty. I don't think I could justify spending 50k on a car that will be 4 years old and has 30k miles on it.

Drive both and decide. Why did you ask the forum. You will get what you get - Useless mostly uninformed opinions from people like me who have never owned an M3.
I have a M235i but its not what you are asking about. I love my new BMW and my neighbor loves his new Mercedes. We all love new cars. What you do like or love is all that matters. Go drive it. |

The only logical answer; the OP wanted us to barrage him or her with pro-Z sentiment, justifying his or her decision to buy a 370.
Or, the OP is bored and wanted to star a flame war. Either way, I sat go with the BMW. The fewer Z owners, the better. They're clearly all insane. |
