Oil temp way different after oil change

So I have a 34 row oil cooler from z1 and have used 5w30 redline oil for the previous change and the most resent

Oil seems to rise in temp much quicker and stays hotter than previously granted the most recent temps are staying nearer to 180 going to 190

But before they hardly ever hit 180

I take the car drifting on the weekends and last time I went to willow springs it barely hit 200 and I had the track to myself on the 210 mile trip home the oil never went to 170

Now just driving 9 miles to work it reaches 180 seems strange idk if something was wrong before or wrong now hoping someone can shed some light on what's going on

I will say I did change the oil in the cooler as well even took the sandwich plate off and made sure everything was tight and secure (mainly just had free time and wanted to fiddle with it )

Have you checked the dip-stick to make sure the engine oil is at capacity.

Even short-filling by one litre can affect the speed with which the temps rise and what temp it settles at.

If you drained the cooler as well, you may find the oil level is down the dip-stick a little and that would explain why heat builds quicker.

Steady-state freeway driving is not going to show much discrepancy whereas suburban commute will keep heat in the engine bay and contribute to elevated temps unlike freeway driving where you have good airflow.

If the oil change was the only difference and you used the same oil, I think BGTV8 is on the right track. You probably got some air in the system during the change. Air takes up space, so you didn't get a complete fill.

Is it possible the seasons have just changed on you and you havent been watching the temp as closely before changing? The outside temperature will have a strong effect on your oil temps with the big oil cooler.

Other than that, explanations above would also account for it.

After you've filled the oil back up and run it a few minutes make sure you wait a solid 15 minutes for it to settle before checking the dipstick. These things are notoriously finicky that way.

My oil cooler sits higher than the adapter intentionally so it drains every change in its own and haven't had a problem.

After my dealer full syn oil change ,the oil temp was showing higher than is normally did. I drove for 15 miles and then it suddenly was normal again.

190* shouldn't be a concern.
