I'm sure all of us know someone who's been in a similar situation. My father passed from cancer when I was 23. He lived 6 days less than 6 months after diagnosis. It was stage 4b when detected so I personally will do what I can to help. Including prayer. Regardless of what god we pray to prayer is proven to help.
