I once saw mechanics at an Infiniti dealership toss around wrenches over the hood of cars that were being serviced. If one of them dropped, DING! But dealerships vary and there are good ones out there.

Still don't need them in AZ, although now that the photo radar has gone "big" I'm sure the front plate requirement will be coming out soon. When that happens, I have to figure out a way to register my car in another state that doesn't require them.
(AZ already just came out with a law that license plate frames cannot block "ARIZONA" on the plate, no doubt a result of the speeder cams)

We can get out of those really easily in CA... Most people don't know it though. It's a guarantee that you can get out of those tickets if you know exactly what to say.

I've had so many front plate tickets... (But I never learn! )

I wouldn't do it if the cop already pulled you over. All he as to do is take a GOOD look at it and see it's on a motorized system and give you 2 fix-it tickets. If you get pulled over, JUST TAKE THE TICKET!

It depends on the dealer whether they drill holes in the bumper, but can easily be covered up with bumperplugs if it does get drilled.

In California, there is a cheap ~$15 ticket for no front-plate, but there is also a more expensive ticket that is over a $100. Sadly, I've received the more expensive one before.

In NJ, you gotta have both plates. It sucks . Tickets are sorta expansive as well. They are $54.

That is true about bumper plugs. However one size doesn't fit all. Before going with an M-tech front bumper on my 335i, the stock bumper was drilled with a front plate. The holes drilled were small and to make the bumper plugs fit, I'd had to enlarge the holes so the bumper plugs would fit.

I wonder what a Nissan salesperson would say when one of us throw a fit over buying the Z because of a front plate, lol.

In Ohio you are supposed to have front plates but the enforcement really depends on what city/area you are in. Cincinnati normally doesn't enforce this law where as Columbus is notorious for tint tickets and front plate tickets. Interestingly.... Columbus is the city with a larger "modified" car scene. Lots of young teenagers with cheap cars and fart cans acting stupid on the roads.

I'll take my chances with no front plate, as long as I'm driving safely and not getting pulled over it shouldn't be a big deal.

I'd like to see how people setup the motorized one. Space is going to be an issue, I'm sure.

Anyone who bought one have any info on this front plate? It'll be an issue for me in NY.

I'm with you, OP. I also live in California and I wouldn't buy a Z with the front plate drilled on already. It seems as if it's a hit or miss issue. What I mean is that I see random cars like IS250, 350z, G35, etc. with no front plate and no holes (evidence that the plate was on at one point or another) and the cars were being driven by older ladies who wouldn't care for such a small issue like front plate.

I know that the dealership will make you sign a waiver stating that they're not responsible if you get pulled over w/o a front plate and I'm OK with that.

It's funny because dealerships do not dare put front plates on expensive cars, ie E9x M3, M5, M6, AMG's, etc. because they know that this can potentially cause the customer to walk out on the deal.
