Short ram or Cold air intake?

Whats the difference between them? Which one is better?? Sorry im kinda new to this

Cold Air Intake

Edit: I will explain, the engine already gets hot enough, the stock system is pretty good on its own, to really see any gains you are going to have to jump to a CAI system.

Cold Air draws air from outside the engine bay. Stock, Injen, and Stillen G3 are examples

Short rams have the filters and air source inside the engine bay and typically lose (or don't make as much) power because of the heat. JWT, Takeda, Nismo, Stillen G2 are examples

short rams are easier to install and maintain... nets good sound. as far as performance it's not much gain, but you shouldn't loose unless it's a takeda intake. lol

Thanks for the replies. But I heard you could get water in your engine with cold air intake because its lower to the ground (on rainny days). Is that true?

Yes. If you drive through lakes.

Bypass valves are a cheap and easy way to avoid this. Only works with a 2 piece system because it replaces the silicone connector.

this should work with the G3's, you can get them at any width.

Depends on the vehicle.

On a 370Z no, on a Celica yes.

Depends entirely on the placement of the CAI according to the engine and room allotted.

MoChu, the G3 intakes are the same height as the stock intakes, so hydrolock shouldn't be a concern. Or to put it another way, if you go through water so deep that you hydrolock with the G3 intakes, you would have hydrolocked even with the stock intakes anyway.
