What did you do with your Z today VI (ON TOPIC DISCUSSION ONLY)

Pushed my car forward a few inches and let it roll back a few times. Looked at it. Sighed then went back inside. Originally Posted by wolfcyn same with me

I have a set on my rears. Not a bad tire for the price. Not re 11 tho. Will probably last as long as my fronts sitting on my rear.

Definitely your rotors... don't waste your time swapping sides.

Going to shave the emblem off the nismo bumper and replace it with a vinyl. So far I have this design... Who recognizes it? (The people I talk to regularly and I've told what it's from **** off.)

Yeah it was. I feel they machined the left one before I bought it and then it just eventually got worse.

My shop advised against doing that and in fact don't even offer the service. Something about it'll be a quick but short lasting fix. All that labor for nothing really.

Generally speaking, "warped" rotors (or excess pad deposits) are caused by poor braking habits. If you inherit one from someone else, get it turned, and then use your brakes properly, you should be good to go for the life of the rotors.

Since a person bringing their vehicle into a shop for this problem isn't likely to change their braking habits (and will probably get offended if their braking habits are criticized), its easier for the shop to simply not offer the service and recommend new rotors. Undoubtedly, though, the customer will have the same problem down the road after about 20K miles, which is long enough for them to not link the problem to their driving.

Can you describe the bad habits? I think I have them and if there is a better way than having my rotors turned every 10k miles I am all ears. I just bought some new brake pads hoping they might solve it.

Because it signifies that they aren't really warped.

Inconsistent braking - slamming them. Un even application of stopping power is the biggest culprit. Think rapid temp changes and then holding the pads to a hot metal at a stop light.

Also driving through puddles on hot rotors or washing your car after spirited driving.

Jar - I may have inherited it or it could of been me since I did get the car used. I'm 20k since the change and still good! I'm gonna blame the previous owner and washing my car.... hearing sizzling when I washed my wheels lol

Also assuming you are using stock/sport stuff and not hard core track pads on stock rotors

A lot of people ride their brakes which is not good. Cracks me up when I see people on the freeway doing 70 and they are on the brakes and not slowing down.

I don't feel like I do those things.. It's possible I inherited it as well. My 2011 was already doing it when I bought it... my 2013 started doing it within 5k or so. Both were bought with 20-25k on the clock...

I would have figured getting the rotors turned would create a new surface to work from, no? I had it done on my 2011 and the problem did come back 10k later.
