How well does your spouse (or gf/bf) know your car?

I just swapped the AeroJacket wing to a duckbill yesterday. I did not tell her about the swap. Mind you, she see's the car every single day each time she walks in the garage. She walks in today and the first words out of her was "What is AeroJacket?" I was thinking I was busted and will have to explain my$elf. This is what she sees everyday before the swap.

I just told her I've had it all along and waited this time to put it on.

So....how well do they know your car. Not well enough.

DEpointfive0 05-30-2014 12:15 AM

LMAOOOOOOO!!!

And thank you for changing the wing. I have always hated that wing/I hate any spoiler that isn't the stock one or one that covers the flat part of the trunk lid

ZeroZeta 05-30-2014 12:20 AM

Ha Ha. "What is AeroJacket?"

"AeroJacket is what happened to the money I saved for the romantic vacation I was going to take you on. Hope you enjoy your license plate frame.":stirthepot:

You are welcome Andrew. I really appreciate your raw honesty. After a year with that wing, the post just got to me. If they had an Al bracket, then it would probably be better. So far so good.

nah

Think about it, she's jealous. It attracts competition. The Civic is safe.

Kayzee 05-30-2014 12:48 AM

Going to do Amuse soon, and wrap the car white at the same time. I expect the only thing she will notice is the change of color from black to white, but as far as money spent on bumpers = no one will be aware :D

ZeroZeta 05-30-2014 01:07 AM

I think its fair that someone who doesn't share the same hobby (or obsession) not have the same eye for detail that the enthusiast does.

I had an ex GF that was into shoes. (Lots of shoes) So despite the fact that she had an entire closet full of foot wear, I do not remember anything specific (ie length of the heel, whether or not they had open toes, or even what color they were) despite the fact that I lived with her for years and saw her wearing them every day.

For some reason the only thing I actually paid attention to were the FMBs.:icon17:

So the FMB stayed during the course of the activity I presume.

Duc_Z09 05-30-2014 05:20 AM

I'm not allowed to (significantly) mod my Z since I sent thousands building my previous Mustang... That's why I went with the Nismo, since IMO it already looks good and doesn't really need anything. So far I've done tint. I'm going to be making a shift knob too (I've got access to a lathe) since I hate the stocker and don't feel like shelling out $180. That plus a tasteful front tow hook should keep my happy for a while. In the distant future when my Z becomes relegated to toy status, maybe I'll add forced induction.

Eww. I can see why she's your ex.:icon18: Who buys a new Civic? If you're going to buy a budget box, why the hell would you waste money buying it new?

My wife knows what color my car is.

My wife knows how much money is spent on the car (she's a damn CPA). She doesn't care about mods except how they affect the budget :icon17:

She would recognize major changes, though. It was her DD for over a year.

Masterbeatty 05-30-2014 09:24 AM

LOL.

when i put on my new suspension my wife came home one day and said why is the car scraping on the speed bumps. I said because i lowered it and got a loud, "you did what?' i then had to explain what coilovers are and what else i did. She does like the new look but doesnt like the way it rides.

daisuke149 05-30-2014 09:30 AM

Mine knows my car fairly well. In fact she drives my Leaf more than i do.

Mt Tam I am 05-30-2014 09:54 AM

Nothing has been noticed thus far so I doubt anything short of a color change would be.

Meulen 05-30-2014 09:59 AM

My wife is very involved. I share just about every decision on mods with her. I bought the car for us to enjoy together. It's actually in her name. But only cuz I have a curse with cars I put in my name!

mab864 05-30-2014 10:10 AM

My wife doesn't really like the Z, so she doesn't have a lot of interest in what I do to it. She did notice the PWJDM V.2 shift knob I recently installed and she thought it looked nice. Her hobby is gardening so she's pretty focused on plants and stuff. I do my best to be interested in what she's doing in the garden and dig holes for her plants when she needs help. When we go on a date we usually take the Z and that's about the only time she rides in it. She thinks the Z is too loud, the ride is too bumpy, and she usually doesn't notice my mods.

Wait, why am I laughing? :(

My fiance knows nothing about cars and she has no interest, just not her thing. I like it that way, she don't get involved in my ****.
Took her to ZDayZ with me, let's just say she will not going back next year.

I'm not kidding. My wife digs nice cars too. I used to have a vette. She didn't like it. So when I wrecked it, I got the Z. We both liked Z's so it was a natural choice. She used to work in a bank and I work in investments. So she does the books in our house while I take care of investments. So she knows everything I buy and she's very opinionated on mods too!

Can you show us any side views or other angles of the new wing... I love it! Where did you purchase from ?

You have unrealistic expectations. Your car will never mean to your wife what it does to you.

Years ago I had a moustache and one morning decided to shave it off. My wife (now ex- for other reasons) asked me if I had gotten a haircut. She knew there was something different but couldn't figure out what it was. It was the next day before she figured it out.

Malm 05-30-2014 12:04 PM

I swapped out my wheels, added some cf to the car, and unless I point it out, my gf doesn't notice it or care that much.

She likes the car tho esp if I am passing someone. Basically if I do floor it, she puts her hands on her thighs and says "oooo"

SS_Firehawk 05-30-2014 12:05 PM

Wifey knows my car all too well. Especially my old Supercharged one. She picked up the sound diff between a HFC and a resonator, clutch chatter, clutch feel between my new Nismo and old car, shifter feel differences, even the smallest squeals. She has now learned where a CBE stops and headers / cats begin. If I make the smallest of mods, she'll notice lol. She even knows that the RRP I bought is a fuel pump to stop fuel starve (we had to walk one day after the gym). I can't get past her.

And she pays the bills. Saurons eye, I swear. But she's bad @SS and let's me do cool $hit to my car lol.

Not sure my husband notices anything about mine. Feel like most of the time he would rather it just be poof. Gone. :icon17:

Hubby knows all of the vendors since I'm always looking at parts during our TV time. As far as if he would notice anything new, probably. He doesn't care for my Z as much as I'd like him to.

Lol, my daughter is the one who spills the beans. She knows what I've been up to for some reason. Maybe because she sees the UPS guy drop off big brown boxes.
