When I was 17 my brother let me borrow his 350 to take a girl on a date. It was pretty freaking incredible and I felt awesome. Had a blast and even filled it up for him. It all depends on how mature he is, and from what has been said, he sounds responsible.

That said, I would have a hard time not being nervous too.

My dad let me take his 300zx out for my junior prom (1994) and nothing happened. I think you're on the right track, your son seems to respect you so I wouldn't worry about him putting your car in a situation where anything could happen.

My senior prom I took my Oldsmobile Delta 88 Cutlass Supreme Royal - I wanted the backseat room At least in the Z you won't have to worry about that!

Do you plan to crash your car today? Then why have insurance on it? When the car gets into boost it can be a handful and going from a 4 cylinder Altima he is used to hitting the gas petal a lot more so I don't want him getting into boost even if he doesn't intend to. Plus knowing it's there I don't have to worry about anyone trying to get him to race since he knows he would have no chance. Trusting him and turning him loose with something that could make him not ever come home again are two different things in my book.

Good for you and him!

Gotta say, I'm with JWillis, I'd let my son take my Z. I didn't get to go to my prom, my parents were way strict about dating, so I completely missed the experience. It sounds like JW's kid has got his head on straight, so it's a no-brainer. I hope you got a fresh bottle of Jameson to work on while you wait...

So I am currently eating at a Burger King (ugh) full of high school kids. I wouldn't let any of these kids ride a bicycle more less drive a z. I mean some of them can't even keep their cup on the table.

This sucks. I hate teenagers.

My dad didn't let me use his car for my prom. Ended up getting a Limo with the
buddies instead. Ended up to be better. More of the experience i'd say.

My old man let me take his 04' 350z Nismo on prom night. It made me a smart man and I learned control, and not to speed because of fear of getting pulled over. I ditched my date after dinner, and took off with the car for a 200-roundtrip drive. 5 years later, I got my 370z

My brother asked if he could take my 370z also. I did not hesitate to say yes. He will take it to prom and bring it right back after prom. He will then take his own car to the after party or whatever him and his friends will be doing that night. You have nothing to worry about. I was just there 4 years ago. It was an amazing night as long as you are responsible about it.

What an awesome dad, I hope to have the same faith in my son when I become a dad one day.

Btw I graduated from fgcu in '12, 370's are pretty common on campus, even a couple of gtr's for students cars so the car won't be a hyper exotic on that campus.

Anyways, the rev limiter was a smart idea - high testosterone level coupled with developing frontal cortex will beat common sense 10 out of 10 times.
