My 17 year old son just asked to take my car to prom

I said yes but feel sick to my stomach about it. It's going to be a long two and a half weeks until this is over!

Why would you say yes to this........I would pay for a limo before I said yes to this.

Good luck with your insurance goals of 2014.

LOL I'm sure he will be fine as long as he's not drinking

jdsto 04-15-2014 06:51 PM

if he ever wants to drive the car ever again, this opportunity should convince him not to drink and drive on prom night.

I would give this opportunity to my son in a heart beat, he would remember it forever.

I would just make sure that he drives it before the big night so that he is comfortable with the car when he goes on his own.

I would never loan my car to someone I didn't trust to treat it the same way I do.

JWillis72 04-15-2014 06:59 PM

He is a great kid and student (unlike me) so I couldn't say no. I don't have to worry about this one drinking, we leave him home for weekend all the time and have never had one problem and I have neighbors that keep an eye on him. Since the car is supercharged I have a tune on it just in case this happened (4000 rpm and 60 mph) but it's still my car with a kid driving it. I need another drink!

:iagree: Boy, I would have told him to want in one hand & crap in the other & let me know which one fills up first.
Personally I think this is a bad move in so many ways & it's not about the car not being replaceable, sometimes bad decisions are made without ever knowing how bad they are

Good luck to all involved

:iagree: Definitely make sure you get him comfortable with the car & hopefully he will act responsible

id be more worried about it getting dinged or keyed or something stupid.

MacCool 04-15-2014 07:05 PM

You sound like a good father. I understand your anxiety...I remember the first time I let my son take my Harley. I'll bet your son doesn't let you down on this.

My first question was " you haven't pissed anyone off enough to key my car have you?" But that's just not him. He been getting up at 4 am to go to football conditioning, doing track practice after school and doing homework until 11-12 at night so he doesn't have time to be in trouble.

Parent of the year candidate!

That's awesome of you. Hopefully, your faith in your son is rewarded. I would do the same in your position.

JWillis72 04-15-2014 07:15 PM

Thank you MacCool, I try my best and it sounds like you've been there!

Those things can be fixed. This is a memory that will last a lifetime for the boy.

Well...if it makes you feel any better, it's REALLY difficult to have sex in the Z, so at least it'll be clean of bodily fluids? :ugh2:
