The I can't modify it 370Z preservation club!
The more I look at my new (to me) 370Z the more I cant bare to modify it. I mean each to their own. I've modifed cars in the past, and maybe I'm getting older but the more quality time I have with my car the less I want to modify it. I was able to pick a babied 2011 Z with about 12,000 miles (~20,000kms) on it. It still smells like a new car inside.
I've added K&N drop ins... But I am on the fence to go further. I am tracking two packages for delivery with my H&R 15MM wheels spacers for the rear, and a set of AAM short tails. (Easily removeable bolt ons I figure). The spacers I will do for sure, but the AAM's might sit in the box for a while. I can't even bring myself to tint the windows. Anyone else in this club where they just want to preserve it the way it is? BTW I have washed my car twice since picking it up on Tuesday and I have also waxed and detailed it..... :tiphat: |

'13 Touring Sport with zero mods. As stock as the day it rolled off the floor in Japan.

I'm not going crazy on mods. I'm just looking to optimize the potential already built into the Z. Each person's impression of optimize is different. I mostly wanted to free up the engine a little and improve the exhaust note. The next mods on my list are a light weight under pulley and an Uprev tune. I've really slowed down on the mods because I was pretty happy with the performance out the box and I want to keep the Z looking mostly stock.

It is a beautiful car as is. I just could not get home without an oil cooler. Then the bug caught me. Added an exhaust as the note needed tweaking, then intakes.
I did get it (mod bug) under control but I am expecting a package as we speak. |
I purchased my first mod (the intakes) about a year after purchase. It's been downhill ever since. I'm slow and deliberate when it comes to researching and purchasing my mods, but that doesn't mean I can stop :icon17: I currently have the RJM clutch pedal assembly sitting in my garage awaiting install
Good luck not modifying your Z :tiphat: |

My garage was filled with parts before I had signed the papers on the car. :rofl2:

Would the car turn become too responsive with wider track width from the spacers?
When my stock shocks wear out, I will get firmer shocks and stiffer lowering springs (moderate), just for handling. That's the only mod I would do. |

wasn't going to mod anything mechanical until i heard the FI exhaust

Then I got the car and thought -- How can I do this? |

I was pretty much going to leave my new one stock...until I realized the factory exhaust on my Infiniti FX35 sounded meaner than the pipes on the new Z.

It'll be too loud? That's like the Trace Adkins song:
Too much fun whats that mean It's like too much money, theres no such thing It's like a girl too pretty, with too much class Being too lucky, a car too fast No matter what they say I've done, well I ain't never had too much fun |
Stock totally except for the Z1 25 row oil cooler. No need for anything else. Zero issues around here in Europe, and on the Autobahn I have no problems with stock power available at all. I have had zero inclination to alter the Z.
I have modded/ tuned before including an Audi, Lotus Turbo Esprit and an Abarth 500 to name a few. To each his own with what you want or need in your ride. |

I would think the Z needs more modding than a Lotus Turbo Esprit. But what do I know. You have had some nice cars. |
Mine was pretty much stock except for a Borla cat-back exhaust when I sold it a few weeks ago. I still have 20mm spacers brand new in the box. To each their own on modding. I'm with the OP in that I didn't want to start cutting and hacking a pristine car. I knew I wasn't going to keep it for many years wanting a torquey V8. I did a lot of reading on this forum and it seems gains were very miniscule/dollar so I weighed the risk vs reward. My logic was, do hardly anything or wait until warranty expired and go full bore forced induction. Not many competent shops to do that sort of thing in my neck of the woods so that was a factor as well. The car was pretty good off the floor IMHO and there was nothing that could have fixed what I wanted to change anyway.

Had rims, coilovers, catback and down pipe before I even took delivery :inoutroflpuke: |
While the salesman was pitching his sales talk to me I completely blacked out and was picturing the parts I need to order. :driving:
Now I'm debating whether to de-badge the 370z or not off the rear. |
One suggested mod. You may want to consider swapping out the stock CSC with a Z Speed HD CSC before the factory one fails either for piece of mind and/or to avoid the hassle of trying to drive your Z without a clutch.

OP. you have been denied membership. Your Z is no longer pure. It has been tainted.

Once i was 100% sure i was buying a 370z, i shopped for 3 month prior to actually buying the car, looking what to buy to mod my soon to be Z:tup:
I did this even with my GTI. I traded the stock 5 star rims+tires for new winter tires on rims at the dealership because i already had the aftermarket wheels getting delivered:roflpuke2: |
With the exception of my Audio, I am all stock after 3 years. Thought of a few things, never brought myself to do any of them. Probably stay the way it is forever........

Oh, and just for the record...

Costs money to go fast....and I'm cheap. The vehicle in stock condition/performance is just fine with me. But, to each their own.
|
My car was stock for about 6 months, then I bought a intake. Then wheels, then exhaust, and now debating on whether to go with coilovers or headers. Once you start to make your Z yours, the cost keeps increasing on what you want to do...smh especially when you start taking it to car events and see everyone else's Z. I can't wait to make my Z blk and bronze...

Stock = Poopy

I've owned mine for over 3 years and everyday i wake up thinking/wishing what to upgrade next :bowrofl:

I almost agree with you.. I think the mods are little gifts for her and apparently she she wants presents. Starting off very slow, clutch spring, hood dampers and some spacers....Not sure what she will want next year!
|
After reading 3 pages worth of posts, I concluded that there is no truth to preservation.
OP -- change the title of this thread. The only time the 370 is stock is when it is on the dealer lot. Once it leaves, many (Ok LOTS) are modded to some degree within 12 months -- my subjective and conservative opinion. |

Nice to hear the feed back. I think with the K&N's and the rear spacers I will be OK for a while without any further mods. |
My car came used with some mods already done to it (FI exhaust without resonator and Takeda cold air intake, not sure what else was done to it). I myself haven't done anything to it due to lack of funds.
I am thinking about dropping some better speakers and a new head unit into it, and it sounds like an oil cooler will be the first big upgrade I will consider. Just havent pulled the trigger yet. |
