trade 37k, 2010 base for 2013 Scion FR-s with 17k

Would you trade a 370z Base with 37K miles for a Scion 2013 FR-S with 17K miles? The local dealer is offering the Scion FR-S, listed at $2275.

i definitely would not, but it is your choice.

kenchan 03-13-2014 10:39 AM

driving underpowered cars as dd, i can tell you that you will hit yourself in the head each time a camry passes your slow arse FRS.

NickTurnon 03-13-2014 10:48 AM

I mean, $2275 is a steal :) Why not just pay cash for it... LOL jK.

But seriously.. Id take a 370z with 105k over an FRS with 105 miles on it ALL day. There is no comparison. Unless you want to spend 10-30k on the FRS to make it just as fast and as sexy

Agree $2275 is a bargain. Then again 17k miles is a bit high IMO.

cooltoy 03-13-2014 11:13 AM

Would not trade.

Agreed. It's a bad deal all around. I'm assuming the OP meant $22750, which means he's buying a used car for $3-4k less than a new one. And getting rid of a car that's better in every single way except cost of ownership.

hadokenuh 03-13-2014 11:20 AM

I say it depends. The VQ engine is very nice and powerful but you will run out of road or exceed the speed limit at 3rd gear. So IMO it's less fun than the FRS which you'll have to work the engine to get power out of it. The FRS is definitely slower though!

Chuck33079 03-13-2014 11:22 AM

So the knock on the Z is that it's too fast to have fun in? That's the best complaint you could have with a vehicle. :rofl2:

victort 03-13-2014 11:25 AM

Imo the frs looks better, but can't live with how slow it it

I would not trade for a Scion. I am married and straight.

Riptide67 03-13-2014 11:34 AM

yeah......NO

Zteve 03-13-2014 11:42 AM

i would never trade anything for a scion POS

Bullit79 03-13-2014 12:07 PM

I test drove the FR-S while shopping for the Z. Unfortunately I drove the Z first, so the FR-S was disappointing. The way I see it, you UPGRADE from the FR-S to the Z, not the other way around :icon14:

Unless you're doing it to get better mileage, lower insurance costs(?), and cheaper maintenance, I'd avoid it.

Joepro 03-13-2014 12:09 PM

I have see a few of these being FI over 400 hp now, thats gotta be a fun car to drive...but no I would not.

MadChemist 03-13-2014 12:10 PM

I would not do that trade. Before I bought my z I test drove the hell out of one and was really shocked how slow it was. Handled great but red light driving sucks. Can't pull away from the pack. You will be depressed the rest of your life for getting rid of your z.

genesis2012 03-13-2014 12:22 PM

^^

Literally regret the rest of your life lol

b15 03-13-2014 12:27 PM

No I would not. While it's the Z is not as nimble, the Z can power out of a turn in ways a non-turbo FRS just dreams of.

As the owner of a v6 Camry....this is the truth....

I wanted to go from my 2000 Celica to an FRS. I waited for two years after seeing the concept to buy it. But when I saw and drove the final product I went looking for something else.

A) The styling was nowhere near the concept (and I know it never is).
B) Might have given it more of a consideration if it was a Toyota, but not as a Scion.
C) Did not want to trade a front wheel drive Celica for a rear wheel drive "Celica" (because it felt similar to my Celica).

I don't really understand the Toyota vs scion argument. I had a scion before. It's a toyota. Same engine/trans, same electronics. Looks different and doesnt offer upscale materials.

scion is marketed to the teen and early 20's crowd.

toyota is marketed to only geezers or people with bad taste.

That is one of the main reasons. I am all about status (tongue in cheek) and Scion does not scream status.

Yes to all that. That 's why I drove a Celica.;)

ZeeBabar 03-13-2014 01:11 PM

In the end, I decided to keep my Z. First, I prefer my Black over Red and second, I like the shape of a Z more than the Scion. Third, it was not going to be straight up trade and I would have had to shell out $4000 for the trade.

I don't either. Scion is Toyota for all intensive purposes. It was actually a smart business move on Toyota's part to create the illusion of a young 'sporty' brand.

Are you missing a Zero in there? $2,275 is dirt cheap, go pay cash and turn around and sell it for a profit. This has to be a typo....
