There's one guy here who claims to work for Nissan. When asked for a link he provided the login screen for the employee lease program. I'll believe it when I see it as an official release. We've had so many people here who "knew a guy who said" this, that or the other.

Yes - and we have not seen any spyshots, testing shot or vids, etc...and while Nissan is typically good about not leaking those until it's almost production ready - this would be the typical time period when they start surfacing.

In my mind the next change would be a 2016 model year - available sometime in mid to late 2015.

I'm echoing here but I would wait as well, it would be a shame to get the '14, then see the '15 and regretting the purchase you made.

Yes I'm actually buying th car today and yet, the point of this thread is that I'm having second thoughts. One thing I did not take into consideration is the cost of the 2015 model. I'm sure most of us will be its set around $38k before TTL. That's significantly more than I even want to pay for a Z.

Maybe I'll go with a lease? And basically I do need a car now. My Frontier took a crap on me. I think either way I'll regret a decision because of the position I'm in. If I wait for the 2015, I'll be reluctant to pay a significant amount more than my current offer. And if I get the 2014..well we know the regret in that.

Lease or purchase..hmm

I know this wasn't an option it the topic but why buy a 2014 model if you want to wait for a new model? Wouldn't it be better to find a low mileage 2011-2013 and save the money compared to the 2014 model so in case you end up wanting the new model you wouldn't suffer such a bad financial damage. Or are they so rare there that you can't find a good used one (don't know how these things go in there)?

But since I'm new with my Z and so far love it I'd say take the 2014 model home if you need a car now. Great cars for the money.

I'm thinking about just waiting on buying a 2014 and leasing one and waiting for the announcement of the 2015.

What do you guys think? What would you do?
i think that's going to be a big waste of money, and also make sure your finances is sound before making the purchase for the current or future models.

the Z is not expensive, but it was never intended for the poor. if you have sufficient income, how about you just wait it out 2yrs, and buy your first car cash? no one said you have to lease or finance a car. and assuming you're still young do you really need a 30K+ burden?

I'm curious as to why you'd recommend he buy a car cash when it's obvious that (assuming he'd be able to get approved) a lease would be in his best interest. If he ends up wanting a Z35 instead in a few years, a lease allows him the easiest way out of his Z34 given that our cars don't exactly retain their value very well.

I realize that this is all moot given that the OP appears to have financed a car, but your comment just came across as a "leasing is bad" generalization I hear all too often from customers who simply don't understand how they work.

As for the OP, congrats on the purchase. Wish I had read this thread earlier as I'm always happy to help a fellow forum member out with a new vehicle purchase.

this is his first car, no money, limited monthly budget, and was still wondering wat he wanted at the time. my recommendation to anyone in that state is not to get their head stuck in debt so soon, SAVE UP money to make a sound decision before letting selfish dealers like you, push novice customers into getting a new car for your benefit. that's all.

there is no need to buy an impractical sports car like the Z in a rush.

apr of 11-12% ? holy f-king hell. i would never do that.

So ignorant, and in all honesty, just plain rude. The OP clearly wanted a Z, whether or not it's a sound financial decision isn't up to you, it's up to him. In all honesty, a 370Z is NEVER a sound decision from a practicality standpoint, it's a pure want item but we (the Z community) all lust for the speed, sound, feel, drive and the rush we get from our cars. Sometimes the want outweighs the need.

My point is that the way you somewhat bashed the idea of a lease came off as uninformed. If someone came to me and said that they wanted a Z now but had an eye on the Z35, I'd recommend a lease all day. It's that very line of thinking that led me to lease my '13, because if the Z35 does end up becoming a bit too digital for my somewhat old school taste, I have the option to buy my Z34. If on the other hand the Z35 or the IDx wins me over, I have an easy out.

I'm happy for the OP, and the truth is that as a first time buyer it'd be hard as F to get him into a lease on a Z without a large chunk of change down. A 12% APR is a bit high for those of us used to Tier 1 credit, but it's his decision and he can always refinance with a credit union in a year.

Your comment about me being "a selfish dealer" is just plain rude and ignorant though. I was a huge part of the Hawaii G35 community back when I had my G and ran our Oahu club and sold a ton of cars to many members. After moving to LA I've sold a handful of Zs, LEAFs and other Nissans to a few folks who are members here and over at My350Z.com as well. I'm sorry you feel a need to stereotype but not everyone who works in the car sales industry is a jerk. I'm assuming that your attitude stems from negative experiences with dealerships but we're not in the showroom here, this is a board for Z enthusiasts alike.

Get the 2014. No confirmend evidence that a brand new 2015 Z model will come out.

It's possible for a new Z in the 2016 model year. Then the smart play is to wait it out for a year to fix any initial bugs or god forbid, just a poorly engineered Z.

The 2014 with it's price decrease is a proven, dependable & fun sports car.

This. I'd be amazed if a new Z came out before the 2016 model year. And even if it does, it's a toss-up as to whether or not it will be better. The whole forum fantasizes about some factory turbo version coming out but I think that's a pipe dream.

Get the 2014. When you're ready for the latest Z, you'll be ready after it's been out long enough to uncover and fix the steering lock/CSC/crappy tires/oil consumption problems.

Nissan continues to be under its GT-R hypnosis. As a result ,these are probably the last days of the ANALOG Z. Look at all the other manufacturers. The new Z will probably follow the trend of less weight, smaller turbocharged engine, and electronic steering. Additionally, a number of other new electronic convenience gadgets will find their way in to what is probably the last of the real driver's sports cars. The current Z34 will be the collector car of the future.
Do you want an analog Z or a digital Z?

I'd buy a 14, great car all of the bugs worked out - enjoy for many years to come.

Even if a 15' is an upgrade, when they come out the prices will be absurdly high for the first model year (think of brand new corvette release)

So I say get a 14' now, enjoy, if new car doesn't disappoint - trade up years later.
