STANT InStant Fill PN 41004 Gas Cap

So I saw this link in another thread to a touchless gas cap, and I thought it would be nice to have one...

So it took me less than 3 minutes to swap them out and thats with picture taking:tup:

The way I figure it is the gas cap door locks when you lock the car, so no worries about anyone fiddling with it...

and I dont have to worry about the cap dangling on the teather ;)

i bought this one from Advance Auto Parts, PN 41004.

So, it doesn't give a CEL? Nice alternative to the tethered cap.

nice!

kdo2milger 08-31-2009 05:45 PM

i took the survey to see the results and no i didnt respond to the nail breaking one

Overall site visitor responses to the question

"Why does the InStant Fill fuel cap appeal to you?"

25% To save time during refueling.

32% To keep my hands clean and odor free.

22% To eliminate a source of discomfort for those with arthritis in fingers, hands, or wrists.

15% To refuel like a NASCAR race team.

6% To save nails from breaking.

Never touch your gas cap again!

m4a1mustang 08-31-2009 06:18 PM

I like this. Thank you.

Cjanik 08-31-2009 06:24 PM

it doesnt throw a CEL because it has a spring loaded cover on the bottem of it. When you stick in the nozzle to fill, it pushes the cover down and sideways, when your done and you take out the nozzle, the cover pops right back into place and blocks air from getting in/out.

The fords have this as a factory installed option on all of the 09+ model year trucks now. (although theirs is built in, you cant remove it like a gas cap).

i had a GSA vehicle last week, drove it to north dallas and back, it was a ford hybrid, so gas miliage was insane...

anyway when i got back i took it to the fuel point to top it off before turning it in and low and behold it had the same type of gas cap...

at first i thought the dumba$$ before must of lost the fuel cap :icon14:

i musta looked at it for half a minute trying to figure out wether it was suppose to be like that or the cap was missing

i like the idea of not having to fiddle with a gas cap, so i decided to be the guinea pig

This looks nifty. I just wonder if you have to worry about anything going into the opening when you press the gas nozzle into the receiver such as rain water or whatever that might accumulate there?

That old dude.... would be cool to see him finally win a Cup. But you know the #48 is going to stink up the last 10 races and get #4.

this is a warning on their site...

"Warning: Do not spray this cap directly with a stream of water. This may allow water to enter the fuel system."

Touchless gas cap concern

I would be concerned if false back pressure readings begin to trigger warning lights or "fuel cap missing" alerts due to this touchless gas cap.

AK370Z 08-31-2009 09:44 PM

This would be effective if I did the refueling. But thanks to state of NJ, ALL of our gas stations are full service! I don't even have to pull the windows down all the way to refuel my car.

m4a1mustang 08-31-2009 10:06 PM

I can't stand that crap. When I drove to New York I stopped in Jersey for gas and some big fat guy filled up my Benz. I did not like!

i think im too ocd to let someone else even touch my car, much less put gas in it...i would be on the hunt for a self service gas station :ugh2:

there are no self service stations in Jersey ... state law, someone has to fill up your tank for ya i guess so you don't steal it.

So much for the stupid law!I'am here in south jersey and always fill my own car.The same courtesy when I fill my bikes.99% of the attendants are cool with it.The other 1% I just leave and go to another station.I don't mind at all because I want to take care of my car.

kdo2milger 09-01-2009 10:58 AM

drove to work and back for lunch now...and still no CEL...

sofar so good...

xiven 09-01-2009 10:59 AM

that seems pretty cool. might have to pick one up.

You must know the gas station attendants because I live in SJ as well and not a single gas station will let me pump my own gas. Well.... even if they did, I will be totally clueless :icon17:

xiven 09-01-2009 01:20 PM

i think both the gas station and you can get fined

We get tickets for speeding natinwide but I'am sure we all are guilty of that at times so its just a trvial issue as far as I'am concerned.Actually I never heard of anyone getting a ticket for fueling up there car.In 20 years of riding Harleys have always fueled our own bikes.Just a common courtesy with our bikes, street rods and nice cars.
